This year, we’ve decided to keep things simple, natural, and sustainable with natural and DIY Christmas gift ideas. That includes a few select wooden toys for the kids that will (hopefully) last for generations. We’re also focusing more on experiences than material gifts (for the most part).

There are so many great gift options for DIY homemade gifts, and I hope that others will consider joining me in gift-giving this way. Below are a few of my favorite homemade gift ideas and some suggestions for some simple gift baskets. Whether it’s under the Christmas tree or as a stocking stuffer, handmade Christmas gifts are an easy way to love on your family and friends.

Why Make DIY Christmas Gifts?

Modern society is flooded with stuff everywhere. We’ve been told that piles of toys, jewelry, and other items are what make the holidays. Thoughtful gifts, like easy DIY projects, not only save money but are a simple way to make Christmas more special.

And if you don’t have time for homemade gifts, it’s nothing to beat yourself up over. Spending quality time with loved ones is the important thing. If you’re looking for some last-minute gifts to buy, then check out my gift-giving guide for the whole family.

I’ve divided some of the homemade Christmas gift ideas by type of person (grandparents, kids, men, etc.), so you can easily find something for everyone on your list. There’s a lot of crossover though, and some DIY projects in one category may be perfect for someone else on your list.

DIY Gift Ideas For Men

Treat your man with holiday gifts he’ll love, from food gifts to homemade body care. The perfect gift doesn’t have to be crazy expensive or complicated. Whether it’s for grandpa, dad, or your significant other, these easy DIY Christmas gifts are just the thing.

Oh!! Last year I made my daughter four different lip balm flavors and my husband made her some Hello Kitty labels for them. She wanted a set of them that she saw in the store, but those ingredients don’t ever go into her.
This year I’m making wool dryer balls for the ladies in our family. I love giving things that I make.

It just isn’t Christmas for me unless I make something. They have included knitted slippers, finger puppets & reusable cloth bags for shopping. Love do create puzzles such as word searches with familiar names and places for the receiver. Also creating a suitable Crypt-a-Quote.
This year I cut up some old T-shirts to make oven-mitt covers. This works extremely well if the design or message on the T-shirt lines up with the receiver. For example, my husband had worn t-shirts with math and physics designs. Perfect oven mitts for my niece and her partner as they are taking those courses at university this year.

Not sure. It’s quite expensive to have one built and there hasn’t been a huge demand for it…

I love making gifts for Christmas and have been trying to make the majority since I got married. I do a lot of baked goods for the guys, and then sewing/crafty projects for everyone else. (I’ve shared several gift ideas and tutorials on my blog recently). I’m excited this year about making my daughter’s first doll and wall art for my sister-in-law. It will be like Santa’s workshop around here soon! 😉

Hi, I love the buckwheat pillow for my father in law… so hard to shop for guys sometimes! 😉 Can you explain more specifically how to make this! =) I was not sure of the quantity of buckwheat hulls I will need and for what size pillow (I would want to make a standard sleeping pillow). So excited to make this for him for Christmas! =D Thanks for all your ideas!

I have made homemade vanilla extract before, and it was a huge hit! Sooo much better than the store-bought stuff, and everyone bakes!

Oooh, and I didn’t see astragalus on your first aid remedy list.. It’s a must. Fill a mason jar with dried astragalus root, loose, then fill it with vodka, store in cool dark place. Then 2-4 months later, strain it, then squeeze pulp through cheesecloth, fill brown tincture bottles.. Label these “immune support”, a full dropper for adults, half for kids… Miracle medicine.. Granted, we are an oober healthy family, but this builds up all of our systems to well during the fall and winter.. Incredible stuff.. Should definitely make the list!
