I’m here today with my good friend Dr. Lauryn Lax to take a deep dive into the gut-brain connection. Dr. Lauryn and I have had multiple conversations on these topics, so I’m glad you finally get to listen in! She’s an occupational therapy doctor, clinical nutritionist, and functional medicine practitioner. And her work is inspired by her 25 plus years of clinical and personal experience. Dr. Lauryn went from having 13 “incurable” diseases according to her doctors, to being one of the most vibrant people I know. I jokingly refer to her as the energizer bunny!
And I love that she approaches health without overly restrictive diets, expensive labs, and tons of supplements. While she does get into some recommended supplements and how to eat our best, the majority of healing is about our mindset. I know in my own healing journey the mindset and emotional side were the missing pieces for the longest time. Her focus is on getting to the root cause of health issues by addressing the mind component.
And there’s some really fascinating new research in this field called New German Medicine. Basically, researchers can look at certain parts of the brain and be able to tell what’s physically going on in different parts of the body. Dr. Lauryn also points out how most of this can be tied back to stress, whether that’s from childhood, or our parent’s stress before we were even born! There’s so much good information in today’s episode, so let’s dive right in!
