Natural Liver & Gall Bladder Cleanse

October 9, 2009 by Katie Wells
Should I do a liver cleanse

I get a lot of questions about liver and gallbladder problems so I am posting a cleanse that is designed to flush out toxins from the liver and gallstones from the gallbladder. It is a relatively inexpensive cleanse and can be done with things from your grocery store.

Natural Gallbladder Cleanse

Please note that I am only posting this because I’ve gotten requests. Not everyone should do a liver cleanse and I highly recommend checking with a doctor first. For more information on this cleanse, visit this link.

If you’re having gallbladder issues and trying to understand why, I highly recommend this podcast.

Gallbladder Cleanse Ingredients

To start a simple liver/gallbladder cleanse, this is what you will need:

  • Apple juice or malic acid supplements (optional)
  • 4 Tablespoons of Epsom Salts
  • 1/2 Cup of Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 big grapefruit, or 3 lemons

Gallbladder Cleanse Instructions

  1. For 4-5 days before your liver flush, eat as many apples, or drink as many apple juice as you can. You can take malic acid supplements if you wish if you can’t drink the juice. In the last 2 days, drink 8 oz of apple juice every 2-3 hours. Doing this will help ensure the liver flush is successful.
  2. On day 6, eat a light breakfast with no fat. This enables the bile in your liver to accumulate, putting pressure in your liver. This pressure will eliminate more stones in your liver.
  3. At 2:00 PM, the same day, mix 4 Tablespoons of Epsom Salts in 3 cups of water, pouring all this into some jar. Do NOT drink or consume any foods after 2 PM. This is extremely important! Put this jar in the cooler/refrigerator to make it cold
  4. At 6:00 PM, drink 3/4 cup of this mixture. It will taste very bad… but you can add 1/8 tablespoons of powdered Vitamin C to make it taste better.
  5. At 8 PM, drink another 3/4 cup of this mixture. Get all your errands done, and prepare for the liver flush. You shouldn’t be doing ANYTHING after doing a liver flush, just lying down and sleeping.
  6. At 9:45 PM, pour 1/2 cup of virgin olive oil into a jar. Squeeze the entire grapefruit into the mix, removing the pulp with a fork, or chopsticks. You should have 1/2 to 3/4 cups of grapefruit juice mixed with the virgin olive oil the jar. Close the jar, and shake it very hard until it is all liquid.
  7. At 10 PM, drink this mixture. You may drink it through some large straw if that makes it easier for you. Try to get it all down by 5 mins or so.
  8. Lay down in your bed as soon as you are down. This is crucial, and most people do this wrong. Don’t do any work, don’t even bother brushing your teeth! Just lay down immediately! Lay on your right side, with your right knee up towards your chin for 20 or so mins. Stay still, and try not to move at all. Try to sleep.
  9. The next morning, when you wake up, drink a 3rd dose of your 3/4 cup Epsom salts. You can go back to sleep afterwards.
  10. Two hours later, drink the last dose of Epsom salts.
  11. Only after 2 more hours can you eat anything, but do not eat solid fruits just yet. Start with liquids, and move slowly to fruit.

Ever done a liver or gall bladder cleanse? How’d it go?

So, Have I got this right? Days 1-3 I juice a large grapefruit, put 4T of Espom salt into the grapefruit I just juiced, add a half a cup of olive oil. mix it well and drink it? Also days 1-3 I drink or eat as many apples/apple juice as I can.
Day 4&5 I eat a light, no fat breakfast. Do I eat lunch? At 2;00 p.m. I make, but Do Not drink, 4T Espom salt into 24oz (3C) of water and place into refrigerator. I fast from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. At
6:00 p.m. I drink “3/4 cup of this mixture” with an optional “1/8 tablespoons of powdered Vitamin C to make it taste better”
8:00 p.m. “drink another 3/4 cup of this mixture” At 9:45 p.m. I prepare 1/2C olive oil, juice from 1 large grapefruit, (ensuring that I end up with 1/2-3/4C grapefruit juice). Pour into a jar “Close the jar, and shake it very hard until it is all liquid.”
10:00 p.m. “drink this mixture. … get it all down by 5 mins or so”
Then, lie down, on right-side with right knee at a 90 degree angle, quickly and stay down at least 20 minutes.
Next day: “The next morning, when you wake up, drink a 3rd dose of your 3/4 cup Epsom salts. You can go back to sleep afterwards. Two hours later, drink the last dose of Epsom salts.”

Hi, No. Do not use coconut oil in replacement of the olive oil. You can however use Walnut oil which is alot more palatable.

I’ve heard that if you use coconut oil you will not get as good a cleanse. Has anyone else heard that?

Do NOT use coconut oil! We did it once thinking we could do a candida cleanse with the coconut oil WHILE doing a liver flush. We thought we had such a great idea, but boy, were we wrong!! It turns out that coconut oil hits the liver too quickly and we were all projectile vomiting in the middle of the night. Then, we had such heavy die-off from the yeast that we had lasting symptoms for a couple weeks (bloating, itchy mouths, constipation). You never take that much coconut oil at once. You can build up to 3 TBS for healthy yeast cleansing… but no more.

I sooo wish I’d used my brain and at least checked about swapping coconut oil BEFORE I went ahead and did it, these comments were on the first page of google!

Actually I went one step stupider and use 3/4 cup MCT (fractionated coconut) oil, I don’t eat unsaturated fats so the olive oil concerned me and I had a lot of the liquid coconut oil to hand. Turns out short and medium chain fatty acids do not require bile to digest!

Like Breanne above I vomited A LOT (plus horrible diarrhoea every hour from 3am until 6am when I finally fell back to sleep), I also had abdominal pains, nausea, light-headedness and possibly went to shock with shaking legs and nearly passing out. MCT raises your metabolism I think, at some point I got really really hot like a furnace all over my entire body though not the prickly heat that makes you throw the covers off (it was a lovely nice feeling), but after that passed by morning I was freezing cold and every muscle in my legs & toes cramped from the slightest movement

It was not fun and I did not pass any stones so it was a total waste of time, trauma and ingredients (barring the fact I have now learned my lesson and will check things before trying new stuff out and follow the instructions properly!)

When I have gotten over this I will maybe try a mini flush with olive oil

No, olive oil is mandatory because it will secrete the bile the way the cleanse intented. Coconut oil won’t do that, despite many other great benefits coconut oil has. Follow the instructions exactly as written or you won’t pass the stones, which we are trying to remove.

I would like to share something that a co-worker of mine shared with me when I first began working with her. I have one huge gall stone I had it confirmed by an ultrasound and was told over 6 years ago that if I didn’t remove it I would die from it. I was telling my friend about my health issue and she gave me this recipe to cleanse my gall bladder out:

1 fresh squeezed Orange or 2 fresh squeezed Lemons
2 Garlic cloves sliced up or minced (you can get the garlic cloves that are already minced up for you at your local grocery store)
1 TBSP of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (it has to be extra virgin olive oil)

You have to drink this on an empty stomach every morning that you wake for at least 2 weeks, longer if you are experiencing some pain in your side from gall stones.

After I did this for the two weeks and stayed away from fast food, greasy fried foods as well as dairy I was symptom free and never had to have my gall bladder removed. I am considering seeing my doctor to see if the gall stone is still there but I hate the doctors and feel that if I have no pain no worries. I still go out and eat fast food and when I think I have even the slightest pain in my side I always use this recipe and the pain always goes away.

I was told by father that my grandmother had the same problem and she did a morning regimen of 1 glass of grapefruit juice for a year and she went back to the doctor and they said that her gall stones were gone.

Here is another tip I learned along the way……I read that cancer cannot live in an alkalized body and that if you have 1 tsp. of baking soda added to an 8 oz glass of water and drink this a half hour before your first meal of the day your on your way to having a healthy balance in your body. It worked for my daughter who always complained of side pain on both sides of her body and she always seems to get UTI’s after doing this for a week all of her pain went away and since then she has never had another out break.

I would be careful about drinking baking soda in water every day before meals because it will neutralize stomach acid. Stomach acid is vital for digesting food, getting rid of bacteria and parasites, and activating other digestive enzymes. Lemon juice would be a better choice as it will not neutralize stomach acid like baking soda will, but has an alkalizing effect on the body.

Baking soda can affect the acidity in digestion, but 30 min before a meal should be fine for a liquid to pass out of the stomach and not affect the meal. Also, the bicarbonate in baking soda is an essential electrolyte that the kidneys use to do their filtering. It’s very effective for UTIs.

I’ve been to the emergency room twice because of gallstones. I don’t have health insurance, so I can’t get my gallbladder removed. Desperate, I went online for some sort of solution, and I found your recipe. I’ve been using it for a week, and it’s working! I don’t feel that stabbing pain in my side anymore, and I don’t feel sick to my stomach every time I eat. I feel great. THANK YOU for posting this recipe. Thank god I don’t have health insurance—I would have gotten my gallbladder removed when all it needed was a $10 mixture from the grocery store.

Himalayan salt is NaCl, it is a different nutrient. Epsome Salt is Mg SO4? not sure if i got that right..anyway, It provides Magnesium, which is what we are using to make the ducts of the liver relax (and the duct from the gallbladder) so that the small stones that are lodged there can easily be pushed out by flush. You need it to make the flush work.

The magnesium is what relaxes the muscles, allowing the stones to come out. Just like an epsom salts bath relaxes sore muscles.

the Epsom salts pushes stuff through pretty quickly so I don’t think it would be a problem as intact your not wanting absorption the apple juice, Epsom and oil works locally.

during the flush you will need the loo regularly and things pass like water anyhow.

I’m not sure the protocol needs to change as the Liver is flushed and if there is no gallbladder that is not a problem I wouldn’t think.

However, if you don’t have a gallbladder its even more important to ensure the liver is clear.

(Epsom Salt are magnesium sulfate ) I know it relaxes muscles and was used as one of 2 alternating drugs to stop labor. My concerns are significant as to all the effects it could have on an infant at various stages of development. I know it could.

also already the the day of fisrt epsom salt after i have been to the toilet, before i even drank the oil, already came out many small sand like but size of rice stones. what are these stones, could it also be kidney stones?

I am using epsom salt capsules instead of the salt drink, I take them with the same amount of water that the cleanse suggests and I take about 20 capsules each time (i measured the epsom salts and made my own capsules). This might be an option for you.

I haven’t tried the capsules but I did read somewhere that it was an option for people who have a hard time drinking the mix. Just be sure to get the same amount of fluid required as if you were doing the mix.
Let me know how it works. I’m getting an ultasound on my gallbladder soon. Depending on results, I may be doing this flush myself. Surgery is an absolute last resort! I want to retain my body organs. lol

I did not seem to get stones from what I could see but I did not scoop out any lumps to rinse and check properly. I also used macadamia oil instead of olive, perhaps that was my problem. I will do another one in the new year and be more thorough.

Those little green balls still come out without using olive oil! BTW-I’m an RN. I truly believe in exhausting the natural routes, before cutting or drugging yourself. Kidney stones don’t come out of your gut! This flush doesn’t affect the kidneys it is purely for the liver/gallbladder. A kidney flush should be done whilst doing the liver flushes.
This really is a simp procedure…..it doesn’t matter too much about what food you eat or when to stoop eating on the day of the liver flush.
If you don’t lie the taste use a straw and you don’t suffer quite so much, but to be honest once you’ve done the flush a couple of times you just get on with it, grin and bear it and have a few sips of water afterwards to take the taste away. The discomfort is minimal really….come on just ‘wo/man up’ and get on with it.
You should repeat monthly until such time that on two occasions you have no stones at all. It may take up to 12 or more flushes to rid your liver of all those pesky stones.
Having a colonic beforehand helps to remove any old faecal matter and other matter which is in the gut and the colonic afterwards gets rid of any stones which may be left behind. If these are left in the gut they can cause inflammation and further any toxins may be reabsorbed.
My doc had my ‘stones’ tested and they are lipids, and cholesterol and some bile salts. Also these stones will remove toxins and parasites and bacteria etc, so getting rid of them is a great help to the body and liver function.
A great many medical problems may be arrested by performing this cleanse……

hi in reply if it could also be kidney stones… No kidney stones come out of the bladder… Not the colon :-)I only wish that I knew about this cleanse when I was pregnant with my 3 daughters. I suffered immensely in the last 6 weeks always the baby pressing up my gallbladder area! And sometimes when you’re really full of stones you are not able to handle the oil. What helps me with the Epson salt is taking apple cider vinegar with and apple juice…Then it goes down quite smoothly:-) As long as you get the Epson salt down your fine.
Peace and good luck and God bless all of us who surge to heal ourselves with fasting prayer and golden knowledge

          Hey everyone

I can suggest ‘Motion Potion’ as a palatable easy way to access magesium on the evening of your ‘final flush’, doses at 6pm + 9 pm : with olive oil + grapefruit at 9.45 pm
          Very good results
Also stay calm.. I swear you can feel little trickles of stones descending downward ?.. or a healthy imagination

It is not recommended to do liver flushes while breastfeeding or pregnancy. I wouldn’t try it unless you have done at least 12 liver flushes but even then for pregnant women it can have an effect on the baby.

Don’t eat any cholesterol or fats during the day on the day of the cleanse. Don’t eat anything after 2 pm. The Epsom salts will give you diarrhea to clean out your intestines. I haven’t found drinking after 2 to affect the results of the cleanse, however, you must drink during the day. Don’t let yourself get dehydrated. I’ve done over 20 cleanses during the last 4 years. I also haven’t done the apple juice for days ahead of time and it still works. I was scheduled to have my gall bladder out January of 2009 and started the flushes instead. I still have my gall bladder. Sonogram reveals some stones still though, so I continue to flush 3-4 times a year. My liver, which was in very bad shape in ’09 was perfect within a few months of starting the flushes.Good luck with the flushes.

Perhaps try 8 flushes straight off ; you shouldn’t stop slushing until such time that when you flush on two consecutive occasions there are no stones evacuated.

however, coz of “imbalance” issues i can only lay down on my left side – any suggestions, thanks

I saw another website that recommended sleeping on your left side, but bringing your right leg up to your chest and staying there for 20 minutes before you fall asleep. I’ve done it on the right and it worked great without the leg up too.

In the Morritz flush that I did, he recommended laying on your back with two pillows under your head for 20 min and then moving to your comfortable sleeping position as long as it is not on your stomach. The right side position was actually his second choice position.

The oil is necessary to make the gall bladder force bile out of the ducts, and along with the bile, hopefully some of the gall stones. The epsom salts help dilate the ducts so the stones don’t lodge and cause pain. You need to pretty much stick to the protocol of opening the ducts, cleansing the intestines out, causing the gallbladder to release built up bile. If you leave out the apple juice part, there doesn’t seem to be much difference. If you leave out the citrus mixed with the oil, you won’t create the green stones that some people think are the actual gallstones, but aren’t. What is important is to open the ducts, and get the bile to flush out some stones.

WRONG! The green stones are definitely gallstones. How do I know this? Because I’ve passed them myself when I’ve eaten NO olive oil.

I’ve seen plenty of bile in my life since we raise and kill our own chickens. Bile is a very bright green. One day I had a pain in my gallbladder – not severe, but a mild pain. A day or two later I saw, in the toilet, a bunch of what looked like bright green peas floating.

Done the flush four times now. I did the first three about a month apart. My 3rd flush released very few stones, mostly small green flakes. Recently started feeling achy again so completed another flush. Released a few large stones, egg-shaped, about 1/2″ long at the longest point. Here’s how I did it: Monday through Friday I ate light meals, little to no meat, and tried to drink as much unfiltered natural apple juice as possible (watered down). On Friday I just ate fruits and vegetables until noon. At 6 pm I dissolved 1 tablespoon of epsom salts in a tiny bit of water, and washed that down with about 1/2 cup more warm water (to get the horrible taste out of my mouth). You need to be near a bathroom at that point. I repeated that again at 8 pm. Lots of bathroom time by this point. At 940 pm i’m getting ready for bed including brushing my teeth, pajamas on, taking the phone off the hook. You need to be ready to be completely still, including no talk talking. At 10 PM I squeezed one orange and one lemon into a jar and poured half a cup of extra virgin olive oil in with it. I brought that (with a glass of water for later in the night) next to my bed. I also warmed an old towel and put a castor oil on it ( you can skip this step, but I find it soothing and helpful). Set your alarm clock for 6 AM. When you’re completely ready to turn out the lights, you shake up the oil and juice mixture, and drink it in one gulp if possible. Put the Castor oil pack on your right side under your ribs, lie down on your back or on your right side. Turn out the lights and wait. I usually manage to sleep a few hours before I need to go to the bathroom. You cannot eat anything during the night no matter how hungry you are. You will probably feel pretty nauseated from the oil and the Epsom salts anyway, and you won’t want to eat. But don’t even think about it. If you’ve managed to sleep at all that night, you want to make sure you get up at 6 AM. At 6 AM you will take another dose of Epsom salts, just like you did the night before. After that third dose of Epsom salts you’ll start seeing the green stones floating after you go to the bathroom. I like to sleep sitting up from 6 AM until 8 AM until it’s time for the next dose of Epsom salts. After 11 AM or noon, you will be pretty much finished with the flush. You’ll probably feel very tired, and i often have quite a headache. I start reintroducing food graduailly, first watered down juice. If I can hold it down, then I might eat a little bit of fruit about an hour later. Another hour later just some plain toast. Then another hour later maybe a vegetables and some rice. The idea is to eat very light the first few meals. One last piece of advice: do not clean yourself harshly after each trip to the bathroom. You will become very sore if you do. If you are making A lot of trips during the night to the bathroom, it’s better if you just use water and pat it dry.

Nope, bile is yellow. I know this for a fact because every time I’ve ever thrown up and ran out of food in my stomach, the only thing that comes out is water and bile, which is yellow. I don’t know what this green stuff is you’re claiming is bile, but it isn’t. And the things you see floating in the toilet aren’t stones, because stones wouldn’t be floating. I know it’s fun to think this hippy dippy stuff is working, but it isn’t. Try reading things that debunk this nonsense you’re endorsing, and you’ll find out the truth. You aren’t accomplishing anything with these “flushes”.
There’s nothing unsafe about ingesting apple juice, and Epsom salts have been used as laxatives for forever, so if you’re just trying to do a general purpose “cleanse” then that’s okay. Just keep in mind that a “cleanse” is just a way of starving yourself for a short period of time. You aren’t actually accomplishing anything with that either, unless it’s part of a religious observation.

Stacey E… comments like yours are so disappointing (to put it mildly…) This hippy dippy stuff as you so flippantly called it, has made a significant improvement in my health, as well as many many other bloggers on this site. I don’t profess to know exactly how the “magic” happens, but after just one liver flush, I went from being in a lot of pain on my right side, including my back and collar bone, to being entirely free of the pain withing the space of 24 hours. Don’t knock something until you try it… one day, and I am sure it will come, when the doctor tells you you need to have your gall bladder removed, please do try our “hippy dippy” remedy for yourself, before you submit to the surgeon’s scalpel… and then come back and apologise for your narrow minded approach to what everyone else is saying has worked for them!

Bile: Bile is a yellow-green fluid that is made by the liver, stored in the gallbladder and passes through the common bile duct into the duodenum where it helps digest fat. The principal components of bile are cholesterol, bile salts, and the pigment bilirubin.

Many of us have now done this flush and have this experience under our belts. You can have your opinion but until you have experienced gall bladder problems and then the difference after a flush then you are not helping people here. I personally was gob smacked at what emerged from the flush. I spent ages researching it and in the end I was so fed up of the stomach problems I thought I would try it. The stones that came out ranged from green to brown and were akin to the pictures of stones shown in surgically removed gall bladders. I also feel much better so I know now it does work

To Stacey: there are all kinds of :”stones”. Most are made of cholesterol, and these will float. Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance. Others are fully calcified, like tiny limestone rocks, and they will not float. It is too bad that the most common stones, the cholesterol ones, are called “stones”, because people get the wrong idea. Anyway, I’ve passed both kinds after flushes.

To be so certain by saying “Nope, bile is yellow” because you vomited it up is laughable! If you’ve vomited? It had passed through other systems.
My floating “peas” are marbled bright green, green to brown and dark brown.
You shouldn’t be so certain of yourself, Stacy!
I recently did a Dr. Shultz 5 Day Colon Cleanse (as I do every 6 months, less if needed) and my body discarded the “floating peas”, leading me to research liver/gallbladder cleansing, brining me to many sites. Dr. Shultz offers one, but I like to make my own when I can. With my lifestyle, I need cleanses to be easy. I am looking forward to cleansing this little pear shaped cleansing mechanism, as I’m already started!

Stacey, I know I am beating a dead horse here from last year. But throwing up is in no way related to the liver, who kinda only uses bile in the small intestines.. You purge your stomach, not your intestines. That a completely different kind of fun than this. But this guy took a knife to and opened up a couple dozen animals in his day. After that many you know he played amueater surgeon a couple times too. He saw it. He opened up enough to know how bad it smells too, I promise you.

Stacey you should really do your research before posting such ignorant nonsense. The liver and gall bladder flush is so well documented and so many people have had incredible results. Just go onto Amazon and check out the book – and the hundreds of positive reviews. A Google search will give you enough evidence. Research Andreas Moritz. You are clearly one of those blessed sheep who are indoctrinated with “modern medicine” BS, and resort to calling natural and potent practices with real results “hippy dippy”. Do some more research and educate yourself on how corrupt the pharmaceutical industry is. Or keep going along in your blissful march with the rest of the sheep. But don’t try to “debunk” sound practices which are helping so many people. Where modern medicine wants to cut out organs or poison people with toxic pills that cause further harm, some people are doing the research and taking their health into their own hands; and curing themselves of diseases that modern medicine can’t. Wake up girl.

Green is the color of bile which is made by the liver, stored in the gallbladder, and upon eating is discharged into the duodenum (the first part of intestine located just after the stomach). Vomiting bile often presents as a bright yellow to dark green color in the vomit.

bile can be greenish, yellowish or brownish..depends on your diet. a good part of it is the cholesterol in your diet. and it can be one color at one time and another at another time…i’ve removed more than one and seen a lot more…. this is probably ok for once or twice a year, but i would not recommend it regularly. and it just might be a good idea to check with your family physician before doing this cleansing at all. your body does a pretty good job of cleaning itself, and has for hundreds of years

            Stacey –

I don’t normally comment on things like this, but wanted to share my story….About 4 years ago, I personally was in a lot of pain after having to take a serious round of medication (intense antibiotics amongst other things) due to a severe infection. Afterwards I was hardly able to digest any food, and had a sharp pain in what I thought was my liver. My doctor determined that it was my gall bladder and suggested that I needed to get it removed. Unfortunately at the time I did not have health insurance, so I was paying everything out of pocket and was facing the possibility of a huge medical bill if I were to undergo the surgery.

My sister (a nutritionist) suggested I go see her naturopath doctor, and he suggested this cleanse to me. At this point I was willing to try anything because I’d been hardly able to eat much of anything without being crumpled in pain for weeks. I thought, what the hell, if this worked the way he said it did, I was willing to take a chance for a 24 hour cleanse (he did not suggest the apple part to me, just the day of epsom salts, and olive oil/grapefruit—so all of the directions listed from #2 to #10).

I have to say I was not a believer before of this stuff you’re calling “hippy dippy” either. But after I had completed this cleanse, I saw in the toilet several hundreds of tiny pea-like things. If you google it… it’s exactly what the small stones look like. The sharp pain in my left side (which had been causing me—an athlete my whole life—to hardly be able to even walk around without being keeled over) was completely gone. I truly was shocked. My digestion had improved too, where I was able to eat simple foods, like really well cooked vegetables and broths, without pain at all. He had also suggested a series of digestive enzymes and probiotics (I can’t remember what they all were, but they were all herbal because he didn’t believe in traditional medication). Anyway, after about a month at this, I had regained my digestion pretty much all the way back to normal, and just kept on the probiotics.

I’m not sure why you respond with anger to something that you’ve never tried. But this has helped a lot of people— myself included.

It’s okay if you don’t agree with it, but I myself experienced healing from this (and skipped a huge medical bill). It opened my eyes up to the fact that our body is a system that we can heal from a lot of maladies— just like a cut heals naturally, so too can certain organs! I hope that you get the opportunity to experience tremendous healing from a simple, natural remedy one day so you can understand that some “hippy dippy” stuff, like this, is based in science (no fat in the morning allows bile to build up, and a ton of olive oil at night causes it to come shooting out and push out all of the stones).

Anyway, if you’re so angry about natural healing and natural wellness, then feel free to just browse the internet elsewhere. I am grateful that Katie publishes information like this because it helps a lot of people! Feel free to spread some goodness instead of your misguided anger.

Hi Stacey, I’m curious why you’re so close-minded and stubborn about this matter? I think you should try it yourself and see if you have any stones come out. Many of us if not All have stones in our gallbladders that have collected because all of our livers work the same daily releasing stones! it’s the normal functioning of the liver plus our diet these days are not Optimum of what our creator intended for us to eat anyways…IT ASTOUNDS ME of the ignorance of those who say You must contact a doctor for his permission to cleanse and heal “Your Own Body”… We are so blindly misled… I would hope more of us become more educated as to how we can heal our own bodies by having common sense and knowledge… Knowledge is golden… Experience is even more golden…GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU….PEACE & LOVE,

Stacy why would you even be on a wellness site when it’s “hippy dippy” to not follow conventional medicine practices?
Those of us who have seen the big picture in our healthcare know that you have to seek out these unconventional but real practices in order to get well, since pharmaceutical companies run the health care system and since they cannot make money on this protocol there are of course skeptical sites. That doesn’t mean they don’t work and you shoukd never belittle anyone’s belief that they can get well.

I too just did a cleanse and passed many green stones before I had even drank the olive oil mixture. There are definately not green from the oil…it is from bile and they are stones 100%.

I’m sorry to see some of the vehemence above. I’d like to share some info I’ve come across without meaning to shmush anyone. I’d appreciate patience with my train of thought and your replie without shmushing me too, please.

I’m personally on the fence about whether these are actually gallstones showing up. Apparently a letter to the editor published in the Lancet in 1999 may have started this idea? https://www.thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/lancet/PIIS0140-6736%2805%2977083-5.pdf. And the Lancet itself published an article in 2005 to explain what was actually happening since the 1999 letter had received so much attention https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140673605663738/fulltext). It makes me doubt that the green “stones” are gallstones, since everyone will produce the the green “stones” if the olive oil, lemon juice, bile, etc. always react the same way to produce this “saponified” product that the linked article above mentioned, and will always float. Apparently real gallstones have very different properties than these green ones, including sinking in water.

Possibly the real test is in filtering feces following the cleanse to see if any hard, indissoluble stones are found. This cleanse may very well help expel them, but it seems the green stones aren’t gallstones in the sense people are talking about.

I know there’s the talk about repeating the flush until there are no more of the green stones, but has anyone experienced them actually going away completely? I read about one woman saying that she was told she might need to cleanse up to 48 times before they all went away after trying multiple times, which may never happen if the same ingredients keep reacting the same way? Again, I’m thinking filtering to find the real gallstones may help determine the necessity of this?

Gentleness, please. I’m researching while in the middle of health concerns and trying to determine whether this is right for me.

            Hi Jenny,
First of all, welcome to the masses of us dealing with gallbladder/liver struggles. It is difficult and scary as the mainstream and alternative medical fields disagree so strongly and virtually no reliable science has been employed to help. I am an open minded person who values the offerings of both mainstream and alternative healing modalities (having both saved life’s of those I love) and I believe in self education and personal responsibility in directing our own health care using any and all available resources. I am a believer in sound medical sicentific research AND personal intuition.
I have found amazing support on sites like theses.
I too went into my research skeptical, confused but hopeful for some treatment that didn’t invlove surgical removal of an important functional organ. Even the day of my first “flush” I was berating myself for going through such a ridiculous and highly/vehemently refuted cleansing process. But the thousands of personal testimonials were compelling. The night of the flush I cursed myself for self inducing stomach flu symptoms! Ugh.
I passed about a hundred little green stones despite throwing up most of my oil mixture. I did not filter my ‘results’ so I’m not sure if I passed any harder white stones.

But the next morning everything changed! (There are a few things that I highly recommend in addition to the info on this page! Please read to the bottom for my tips.)
I felt at peace though still exhausted. My rage was gone. I was kind and patient with my trying family. I could breathe. Even before I began eating again I started doing organization projects that I had shelved and avoided for years. My blockages were just gone. I could handle life again. The color of the atmosphere was like wearing rose colored glasses.
The pain under my ribs was GONE. My feeling of distention was gone. My back pain much relieved.
Over the next few weeks I continued to feel great and I pushed my fat intake with no aches or pains! And no gall attacks.
Into the second month these benefits started to fade and I planned my second flush. Same results! Cleaned my basement and redesigned my website.
Third flush. Did my business taxes on the day after the flush. 🙂

*Do I think the green stones are gallstones? Not really sure. Kinda doubt it.
I do not believe that the experiment the Lancet sites to disprove the green gall stones is scientifically conclusive. It is one experiment that does not adequately reproduce our biology and it was not reliably reproduced. I’m also not fully convinced that the ‘stones’ aren’t soap…
In my research, which included reading thousands of testimonials, as well as articles and the book The Amazing Gallbladder and Liver Flush and doing my own flushes; I have come to believe the green stones are actually liver stones. There are pictures in Morritz’s book of a dissected liver with these ‘stones’ throughout it. They are not viewable in an ultrasound due to their softer makeup. But they do interfere with the healthy function of GB and liver. Also the reason so many people who have gb removed continue to have the same symptoms. The reason it is recommended to continue flushing is because stones higher in the liver ducts settle down into the larger liver bile duct after it is cleared of the closest stones.
Either way; I don’t care! My life is changed and I haven’t felt better in many years. I am no longer angry and bitter, but the happy kind person I used to be. I eat normally and do binge on healthy fatty foods somewhat regularly without any problems.

*Tips/ Things I did as well as the flush in this article that I feel really helped my process.
            1) Read Moritz’s book. He’s a bit wacky, but he goes into lots of detail on the right diet leading up to and following the flush as well as ways to alleviate common difficulties. (Aloe for nausea!)
            2) Colon cleansing before and after the flush. As recommended by Morritz. It makes way for the flush which is essential for the flush to work at all and prevents complications including feeling sick during or after the flush.
            3) I had the guidance of a Naturopath/Accupuncturist. Accupuncture helped me quite a bit with symptoms before I started the flush and I went back after the third flush when I was suddenly having aches again and she balanced my GB/Liver energies and back to being completely symptom free.
She also gave me some Chinese herbs to support my systems. But the number one thing she gave me was Glycine.
            4) Glycine! It is an amino acid and it calms smooth muscle contraction. (AKA Comin bile duct spamming and pain). It works similar to magnesium but without the loose stools. I did feel each flush as though some debris was still in my duct or that the duct was just a bit tender. The Glycine settled this down quickly. 1-500mg capsule every 20 min until symptoms ease, up to 5 doses. I never needed more than 2 doses. I also used it prior to my first flush when I would have GB aches and believe it fended off a couple of oncoming attacks. This glycine has been my safety net.

            * While I suspect that I haven’t I fact expelled true gallstones, I do plan on undergoing another ultrasound to see if anything has changed. I definitely plan to keep my GB nonetheless as I have the pain and associated symptoms under control. I also have my emergency medical chest of supplements so that I feel confident living and even traveling without fear.
I will update this with my results if anyone is interested.

Best of luck to you on your journey!
            In Health,
            Erin

If the green stones came from the olive oil and epsom salts, then people who take substances other than olive oil and epsom salts to liver flush would not pass the same green stones. This has been debated all over the internet and I think there are sufficient positive testimonials to indicate that the liver flush helps many people by allowing them to release stones.

If people take apple juice or malic acid, then their stones will soften prior to passing and likely won’t be the same hardness as someone who had the stones removed by surgery.

Hi Jenny , I did about 11 cleanses over a year before I stopped getting stopped stones–big or flax seed size . This procedure gives GREAT relief! If you have a problem it’s worth trying before you let them take an organ out of your body. The body is complex and each organ does so many things;doctors have yet to discover all the synergy between them all and benefit to each one. Keep it if you can!

            Hi Jenny,
I asked the same question to Global Healing Centre, as I’m wary of purported fixes on the cheap. Here’s their reply verbatim with just the end bit chopped off that was talking to me personally. I suggest all go and check these figures, seems to make a lot of sense to me. Bear in mind people pass different types of stones, their densities will vary with composition. Some will float, some will sink.

Best wishes to all. I will be doing my first flush in the coming weeks.

“For Olive oil to saponify into a solid as you have mentioned you have to have an extremely alkaline environment.

Olive oil has a lye SAP value of 135.3, this means it takes 135.3 mg of LYE to saponify 1 gram of olive oil. lye, also known as sodium hydroxide, is extremly alkaline — very dangerous and caustic substance. To saponify 8 ounces of oil it takes almost an ounce, or half a shot glass of lye.

Stomach acid is not alkaline, so we aren’t getting any magical sodium hydroxide or lye from stomach acid. The most alkaline substance in the body is bile… bile has a ph of 7.5 – 8.8. People doing Liver Flushes have impaired or even no bile flow. some people have done liver flushes while jaundiced.

Sodium hydroxide has a ph of 12-14. this is orders of magnitudes more alkaline than bile since ph operates on a logarithmic scale. Sodium hydroxide is 100,000 – 3,000,000 times more alkaline than bile.

Aside from science helping us here, most people that are able to complete the Liver and Gallbladder cleanse find ideal results, and actually feel this difference as they progress.”

You need to take the malice acid in the apple juice; so yes the apple juice is important. The apple juice softens the stones and makes things easier to pass. The oil is a lubricant and the epsom Salts dilates the vessels allowing the passage of the stones.

Follow the protocol, if you don’t have the stuff then get it before you start. Further you need to repeat the flush every 3 weeks until you have two flushes without passing any stones.

You also need Colonic Irrigation the day before you take the oil and then again the day after you finish the flush.

If you do the slush half heartedly you are at risk of causing more problems.

In response to the colon irrigation a couple of enemas is fine to get those lingering stones that get trapped in the colon after a liver flush…I would also like to comment I made a new friend in my health food store who was instructed by her doctor she had gallbladder stones which was causing all the pain in her liver and to get surgery ASAP! She opted to look into the natural way of healing did the liver gallbladder flush and had 12 huge stones the size of grapes come out which she took to her doctor in a jar because normally they float because they are fat cholesterol and bile salts. Her doctor’s response in anger and dismay was that she was practicing witchcraft LOL.

I never did a liver cleanse and I am not sure it I need to do one but this Liver Cleanse is informative and useful. It seems so easy and practical as far as the ingredients. It just seemed odd that the one guy replied that he didn’t have the ingredients. Well, just go out and get them! And, that guy who asked about the water on day 6 – that was a great question.

just a couple of comments. During the six day of preperation, including the sixth day, everything you put in your body should be room temp. This is because you dont want anymore stress than necessary on your liver and anything cold makes your liver work harder. You should also do a colon cleanse at the beginning of yoursix day flush and on the fifth or sixth day as well. This is to ensure that there is no blockage that would prohibit the stones in your liver and gullbladder from passing through and out of your system.
This is major surgery without actually cutting into your body and should never be done more than 3 weeks to a month apart. You also might have to do this proceedure up to a dozen time to get all of the stones removed from your liver and gullblader.
A good book to read on this subject is the amazing liver and gallbladder flush by andreas moritz

I read that you should take l-ornithine capsules with the first sips of the 10:00 drink. They recommended four capsules, but it would vary according to size or mg. They even said you could take 8 if you suffer from insomnia. I’ve done the cleanse before and it’s helped me, though it’s probably about time to do it again.

I have hashimoto’s and just did this last night/this morning. I was a little worried but my health is so bad that I figured, there’s really no way I could get worse than I already am. I can’t eat anything, it used to just be gluten that gave me immediate bloating/swelling/brain fog and it felt like it didn’t digest at all. It was at least two days before those symptoms went away. It’s now not only gluten but almost anything I eat. I feel run-down, exhausted, it’s hard to describe but I almost feel like I’ve been poisoned. I’m weary down to my bones and even my bones ache. And this is despite being completely GMO-free, dye-free, and gluten-free for almost a year now and taking high-quality probiotics several times a day as well as a few other supplements for my health issues. I started to have gallbladder pain a few months ago and went to the doctor who did an ultrasound and recommended removal. The pain wasn’t constant though so I decided to wait it out and see if things improved.

I read about this cleanse and was doubtful, but again, I don’t have much to lose so I decided to give it a try. Yesterday was day 6 and was miserable. I felt like a fool. But this morning, oh wow… I keep running to the bathroom and have passed what the others describe. Tons and tons and tons of them. And the more this goes on, the better I feel. I don’t feel tension, I don’t feel uptight, I don’t feel like my blood pressure is high or my heart is pounding (something I get frequently with hashi’s even though my blood pressure isn’t high), I just feel better. It really does feel like toxins have been removed from my body because that feeling of being poisoned is gone. Yeah, it’s crazy and I don’t understand exactly how it works but if it makes me feel this good, more back to “normal,” then it works for me.

        Give it a try. 🙂

          NO!

The apple juice is to soften the organs, the Epsom salts is to dialate the brachtes (or holes) in the organs, and the olive oil is to soften the stones within the liver and the bladder. Just follow directions, as outlines above and it will work. I’ve been doing a modified (I take three doses) two smaller than this recipe (one before and one after “the big one”) for about 13 years now, and it works beautifully. Ive eliminated about 350 stones from my liver and some tan sediment from my bladder. It will make you think clearer than you ever have, especially if you adhere to a good, balanced diet and get a goodly amount of exercise. Sincerely,

            I have a few questions:

            1. I want to try this since I’ve been rushed to the er twice and doctors recommended surgery. I can’t afford it, my sister tried this method and it worked for her. My concern is i have a 2 year old girl who is is still breastfeeding. My plan is to stop feeding her on the days of the flush. Do you think that’s ok?

            2. If i replace the salt with capsules, how many capsules do i take for each replacement? The four times I’m supposed to take the salt with water.

            3. On day 6, it says light breakfast only. Does it mean I have to skip lunch?

            4. After drinking the epsom solution and olive oil lemon solution, can I drink something to wash down the taste?

            5. The cups mentioned are the ones used for baking?

I’ll just get to the point. Had gallbladder pain. Ultrasound showed biliary sludge. Did the liver flush. Ultrasound showed no sludge. Surgery was cancelled. Since then, I recommend the fasting, cleanses & raw food diet by Markus Rothkranz, supported by Dr. Michael Greger MD. I’ve researched nutrition for many yrs & this is what I recommend to all. BTW Dr. Christopher Herbal Legacy is an excellent free source of info. on herbs. Now you can live long. God bless.
