I had the chance to meet Dr. Gina Nick in person recently and I realized right away we’d be friends. Dr. Gina is the founder of Apothicaire and a world-renowned naturopathic physician, researcher, and formulator. Her latest project is working on some really fun (and tasty!) ways to improve levels of certain nutrients, including glutathione.
And our conversation today focuses on the benefits of glutathione and why we need it more than ever. Also known as the master antioxidant, glutathione helps lower inflammation, balance hormone levels, and support the immune system (to name a few). Stress and too much sugar are just a few of the things that deplete our glutathione stores.
This time of year many of us have the chance to indulge in lots of sugar, which not only depletes nutrients but has a negative impact on overall health. Kids especially tend to overdo it on sugar and on average consume 3 cups of sugar just on Halloween!
Gina has some practical tips for how to handle all of the sugar being thrown at us over the Holidays and some really good (but still fun) alternatives. We also talk about the importance of guiding our kids to make responsible decisions for themselves when it comes to making healthy choices. I’m really excited to share our conversation with you and I feel like it’s a timely message given that Halloween is this week.

This is not new information. We have known for a very long time that sugar is not good for us. I was a child growing up in the 60’s and 70’s and my parents rationed my Halloween candy and sugar intake. This was not unusual. I am now a grandparent and I am very careful about what I give my grandchildren to eat. Nor do I believe grandchildren love their grandparents because they give them sugar. Children love their grandparents because they spend quality time with them. We only want the best for our grandchildren. Please do not use this example again. It is outdated.
Thanks for your perspective! Unfortunately many parents and grandparents don’t share your views and sugar plays a different role in their diets and families.
I was very interested in listening to the harmful effects of sugar, but didn’t need to listen to misinformation about drugs in Halloween candy! DRUG DEALERS ARE NOT GIVING AWAY THEIR PRODUCTS. . ?????
