You’ve probably heard horror stories of 3-foot tapeworms camping out in someone’s gut. Most parasites though are so small they can only be seen with a microscope! Millions (if not billions!) of people around the world have parasites. Many don’t even know it.

Intestinal Parasites

There’s a very good chance you have yeast overgrowth or intestinal worms. The CDC estimates over 60 million in the US are chronically infected with toxoplasmosis. And at least 14% of us have been exposed to toxocariasis. And that’s just in a developed country.

Countries with poor sanitation and poor hygiene due to economic factors are even more likely to have issues. The World Health Organization estimates over 700,000 people worldwide die each year from parasites and vector-borne pathogens. The prevalence of parasitic diseases is likely much higher than estimates.

Our bodies are literally crawling with hundreds of strains of yeasts and bacteria. The digestive tract alone holds more than three pounds of bacteria. We need them in the right balance for good digestion and nutrient absorption in the intestinal tract. Probiotics are the good guys and have a huge impact on our health.

Out of Balance

When the good bacteria get out of balance, problems begin. There are many risk factors including diet, certain medications, stress, contact with infected sources, and others. Our bodies also host naturally occurring yeasts. When we have an overgrowth this can have a big impact on health (and not in a good way). While vaginal yeast infections may sound familiar, they’re usually a sign of a much larger infection.

The most disturbing invaders to our bodies, in my opinion, are parasites. Sadly, most people carry these guys around too. Studies have found that most people, especially those with chronic diseases and cancer, are host to at least one kind of parasite.

Parasites can range from tiny ones only seen by a microscope to long tapeworms (several feet long). A tapeworm can live for 30+ years and parasite infections can last for years!

Different Types of Parasites

We don’t really want to think about the creepy crawlies in our gastrointestinal tract. But it’s important to know what we’re dealing with here. With the high prevalence of intestinal parasites, there are a whole range of different types. Common intestinal parasites include:

  • Whipworms – Nearly 800 million worldwide have whipworms. They hang out in the large intestine and are a type of helminth infection. It’s transmitted by fecal contaminated soil and contaminated food grown in that soil. Lighter infections don’t even have symptoms.
  • Tapeworm infection – Tapeworms can cause intestinal parasitic infections but they can also travel to other parts of the body. Young tapeworms form cysts and can live in other organs, including the brain, liver, spine, and heart.
  • Roundworms – The larvae can infect various body tissues. Ascariasis is also a type of roundworm. Mature worms like living in the gastrointestinal tract, blood, and lymphatic system.
  • Pinworms – These are the most common intestinal worm infection in the US. The females lay thousands of eggs while their host is asleep. This can cause intense itching on the anus and restless sleep. The microscopic eggs are most commonly spread between young children. It’s important to regularly wash all sheets, pajamas, and underwear. You’ll also want to treat the whole family if one of you has it.
  • Hookworm Infection – Along with Ascaris, hookworms are a helminth parasite. They live in the small intestine and attach to the intestinal wall and cause blood loss. Many infected people don’t have symptoms.
  • Entamoeba histolytica – The CDC estimates only 10-20% of people with E. Histolytica show symptoms. It’s more common in tropical regions or you can pick it up by visiting one. Those living in unsanitary conditions or men in homosexual relationships are also at risk.
  • Protozoan – Protozoa infections, like giardia and giardia lamblia, are microscopic. They infect the blood and can be transmitted from one person to another through mosquito or bug bites. They can also infect the human intestinal tract and be transmitted through feces.
  • Cryptosporidium – Aka crypto, this parasite is one of the most common waterborne diseases in the US. You can get it from the ingestion of contaminated food or water, including while swimming. It can cause symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain, and weight loss. Not everyone who is infected has symptoms, but they can still pass it to others for about 2 months after infection. Those with a weakened immune system are most at risk for serious symptoms.

How Do We Get Parasites?

Parasites can enter the body in a variety of ways, depending on the type. You can get it through contact with contaminated soil, eating raw or undercooked meats, or even from bug bites. If you’re traveling to a developing country or drink contaminated water you’re also at risk. Because some parasites are microscopic and live on surfaces for several weeks, they’re easy to spread.

Treating parasites is a 3 step process. First, we have to kill the invaders, then they (and the toxins they create) need to be flushed from the body. Finally, we need to support the body in healing and regenerating itself.

How to Tell If You Have Parasites

There are many symptoms directly or indirectly associated with parasites. If you have several of these symptoms, there’s a good chance you have an infestation. Remember that some parasites don’t even cause symptoms though!

Symptoms of Parasites

  • Lowered immune system and constant illness
  • Rectal itching, especially at night
  • Digestive problems like bloating, cramps, constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Bloating and gas
  • Tired all the time
  • Floaters or spots in the eyes
  • Trouble sleeping and teeth grinding at night
  • Anemia
  • Asthma
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Psoriasis or eczema
  • Extreme hunger
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Plus many more…

If left untreated, Candida, yeast, and parasite overgrowth have been linked to a plethora of chronic conditions. Yeast and Parasites are often found in people with the following conditions:

  • Infertility or permanent fertility damage
  • Cancer
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Arthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Malnutrition
  • Vitamin Deficiencies
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Leaky Gut Syndrome
  • Kidney Stones
  • Chron’s Disease
  • Skin conditions including eczema and psoriasis
  • Insomnia and sleep disturbances
  • Digestive problems of all kinds

Conventional Parasite Treatments

Typically your healthcare provider will order a stool test. Stool samples that don’t contain live, visible parasites are considered negative. PCR tests though can detect dead or dormant parasites. If someone tests positive they can be prescribed anti-parasitic drugs.

Natural Remedies for Intestinal Parasites

The good news is there are effective natural treatments to help the body kill and remove parasites. If you suspect that you have an issue, you might consider some of the treatments below.

Change What You Eat

Since parasites thrive in a weakened immune system, eating healthy is one of our best defenses. Lots of sugar depresses our immune system and causes microbe imbalances. I recommend getting rid of all processed sugar and even reducing natural sugars. Sources like honey and high-sugar fruits can still cause problems during an active infection.

Some natural stevia is ok once in a while, but avoid anything that gives the body a sugar source and feeds yeast or parasites. Also, consider skipping dairy to give your body a boost. Eating healthy whole foods is a must!

Sweat it Out

As your body kills off parasites, their toxic by-products must be removed from the body. Some of these (like heavy metals) are best removed through the sweat glands. Work up a sweat by exercising, using the sauna, or even working in the garden! Taking cayenne is another good way to kick up the heat.

Diatomaceous Earth (DE)

This naturally occurring substance has an amazing ability to kill parasites and parasite eggs. It’s naturally high in the silica we need for hair, skin, and nail growth. Plus it has trace minerals and can help restore body tissue and improve digestion.

I start with 1 tsp a day in 8 ounces of water and work up to 1-2 Tablespoons a day. Be sure to only use food-grade DE. Taking DE may also cause a Herxheimer reaction (see more below).

Apple Cider Vinegar

What can’t apple cider vinegar do? It may help lower blood sugar, improves digestion, and kills harmful pathogens. It helps the body detox for clearer skin and a healthier body. While it won’t kill parasites on its own, it strengthens the body’s defenses against pathogens.

ACV is strong on its own so be sure to take it in water. I start with 1 teaspoon up to 3 times a day, 30 minutes before a meal. You can increase up to a Tablespoon at a time.

Probiotics

Probiotics help restore the helpful gut bacteria that are wiped out by parasites (or antibiotics or hormonal birth control). We need these good bugs for a healthy gut. I include lots of fermented foods in my diet, and I also like this probiotic supplement. Just don’t take them within an hour of ACV or diatomaceous earth though!

Herbs and Spices

Garlic is a powerhouse when it comes to pathogens and parasites. You can include minced raw garlic cloves liberally in your diet.

Cinnamon is another natural remedy for parasites. You can use ½ teaspoon of high-quality cinnamon powder in water, kefir, or coconut milk yogurt up to three times a day.

Anti-parasitic essential oils include clove, eucalyptus, fennel, and white camphor. These are great to diffuse or can be diluted and used topically. Consult with a qualified aromatherapist before using any essential oils internally.

Herbs commonly used for parasites include andrographis and a blend of clove, wormwood, and black walnut hull. You can also use digestion and immune boosting herbs to strengthen your body’s natural defenses. Be sure to do your research before trying any new herbal regimen!

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an excellent antioxidant and great for immune support. It’s also helpful for parasite infections. If you have parasite symptoms you can use 5 grams of vitamin C per day spread out in 2-3 doses. Too much can cause loose stools so you can adjust the dose down if needed.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a natural, mild anti-fungal, and very nourishing to the body. If you’re not already using it in your cooking, it also tastes great blended into coffee or tea. You can add several tablespoons a day for healthy fats and to support healthy bowel movements as you’re eliminating toxins. Personally, I don’t use coconut oil as much anymore and mainly use olive oil.

Herxheimer’s Reaction

Sometimes getting rid of parasites can be uncomfortable. Herxheimer’s reaction, named after the German doctor who discovered it, is basically a die-off reaction. Trying to treat parasites and infections quickly or with potent remedies can cause a Herx reaction.

It’s best to be on an anti-yeast/parasite diet for several weeks before even starting supplements, This can help minimize reactions. You can start with small doses of apple cider vinegar and diatomaceous earth. Work your way up to help keep the die-off symptoms at bay.

You may even find that you “catch a cold” a week or so after starting to treat your yeast and parasite symptoms. This is actually a mild Herxheimer reaction. Backing down supplements and drinking more water should help it pass quickly.

Other Important Notes on Intestinal Parasites

Removing parasites is a difficult job for your body. It’s important to support your body during the process. Regular exercise, a good diet, adequate sleep, and limiting exposure to toxins all help!

Epsom salt baths are another excellent way to help detox through the skin. I like to use 1/2 cup of Epsom salts in hot bath water or try one of these detox bath recipes.

Be sure to drink plenty of water to flush out die-off toxins faster. And of course, plenty of sleep gives the body enough time to regenerate and heal. I aim for at least 9 hours a night. It’s also very important to skip the sugar and refined carbs as these make the process much slower. Raw vegetables and healthy fiber sources help keep your energy levels up and clean the body faster.

Thanks for the info… I have never heard of the di earth… must get the spelling right…. I have used ParaGone, Cloves, Pau d’arco, Fennel, Black Walnut Hull (common in Native American Indian uses for parasites), Sage, Tumeric, and Colloidal Silver, so you have given me a few to mix around as I just got told I have IBS again… after curing it with parasitic, natural remedies the last time (15 years ago +)….due to researching it myself…. as medical tests can only identify only about 5% of existing parasites, and of that the test can only seem to see about 20%…not good…. if your Eosinophils are in blood results it can be indicative of it… Anyway… thanks…I just bought Ceylon Cinnamon and am wondering which cinnamon you suggest, as I read Cassa v.s. Ceylon have different amounts of Coumarin in them, which too much of can be toxic, difference being 2-5 ppm v.s. 2,000-5,000 ppm, wondering if it is that component of the cinnamon that is having the effect and therefore the Ceylon won’t cut it…. hmmmmm

    hey Wellness Mama,

I am almost convinced that I have yeast parasites. I have had severe abdominal pains in the past and I concluded that it was because of a lactose intolerance. I switched to almond milk and that seemed to help a lot. But occasionally I will still get the abdominal cramps with bloating. I am consistently extremely gassy and constipated. I do not eat a lot of refined sugar, but I do eat a lot of fruit and carbs. I am a collegiate runner and usually depend on breads, granola bars etc for fast energy. I understand that this is probably not best! I also recently had an outreack of a facial rash that seems to be seborrheic dermatitis on my face. In doing a detox what would you recommend for fuel foods for running? Also, I know you encourage people to slowly detox, when does one know when the parasites are gone? When is it okay to eat fruit again? Thanks so much for your articles!!

Chia seeds are great for endurance/running and it really depends on your body on when you’ll be able to introduce things again..

    I’m a 44 yr old female.
I have never done a parasite cleanse–ever. I’ve read the comments above and wondering
about the dietary suggestions of avoiding dairy and sugar, for example. While online, came across recommendation to
do a parasite cleanse before doing a liver cleanse or gallbladder cleanse. Was diagnosed last yr with gallstones; but no
symptoms. I initially went to the dr b/c
    of loose stools (uncontrollable) after eating on occasion (was inconsistent;
not sure if it was too many spices or particular food was giving me trouble). Dr. said I had IBS and gallstones and wanted
to (of course) remove my gallbladder.
But since I had not had a “gallstone attack” decided to forego that and
use Royal Breakstone to flush the stones.
Felt better. But now a year
later, had a very painful gallstone attack.
I did the olive oil/lemon juice flush last weekend, out of urgent need
to feel better. It did help
tremendously. However, still feel I need
to do a couple more cleanses of the gallbladder; still some discomfort.

So back to my question: I’ve given up eggs since the “IBS”
symptoms flare up; I appear to be lactose intolerant (and milk just tastes
funny lately); the only thing that doesn’t bother me ARE simple carbs—which I
which I know aren’t good, but… what am I to do? Any diet suggestions for parasite cleanse?

Holy Moly! I am suffering from the same! The only thing that makes me feel okay while eating are simple cards. I miss eating..

Hi there, Just saw this article and it looked very helpful to me. I was diagnosed with ‘IBS’ by the doctor and as many of you may know, this is an extremely ambiguous and lazy term given by doctors. I then went to a local health store after being told I just had to deal with ‘IBS’ and had an allergy testing using a VEGA testing method. The lady told me that she reckoned I have a wheat intolerance, and also said that I have a Fungal/Yeast/Bacterial infection in my gut. I haven’t had any colonoscopies, and haven’t been to a doctor since the said VEGA testing. I’ve had IBS like symptoms for 3-4 years now, (including diarrhea, stomach cramps, irregular period and a low immune system) and i’m pretty bloody tired of it, as no definite answer as to what’s happening in my tummy has been given. I’m currently starting to take Yeo valley yoghurts as aparently these contain the most good bacteria, can anyone suggest anything else that might help me? I would greatly appreciate a reply, thanks 🙂

If you are experiencing some chronic intestinal-related discomfort, I recommend giving the Lady Soma Probiotics a try. It’s the same concept as that Dannon Activia yogurt but way more useful, because people with tummy trouble often have lactose/dairy problems and can’t eat yogurt. I was getting a lot of bloating and discomfort after eating just about anything and was starting to get freaked out. I’ve been taking these Lady Soma Probiotics for almost 2 weeks now and have definitely noticed a difference. I haven’t been having uncomfortable food/intestinal reactions, and without getting too explicit, visiting the toilet these days is practically something I look forward to now. I feel “regular” and “productive” for the first time in months and have a feeling that I had too much intestinal bacteria. These

I hope they work for you, too, because it’s no fun to be bloated and gassy all day!!

Finding this blog is better than winning the lotto! I cannot express the joy in discovering the newfound hope from all the testimonials and advice.

I have similar stories to many. Since 2009 experiencing terrible bloating after eating and I belch like a guy (and never used to!) I thought I had guy dysbiosis but I was treated for parasite by an urgent care doc in 2009 w/ medication. took the rectal itching away. that comes back once in a while if I consume more sugar than normal. but is short lived. This bloating is RIDICULOUS and the discomfort / pressure disrupts peaceful living.

While I appreciate all the options for treating parasites/yeast/fungi… I am unclear on whether I need to do “all” the options or can I stick to 1 or 2?? I need something that will not leave me so sick that I cannot go to work and function professionally. Would it be better for me to see a homepathic doc to get guidance? I was looking up stool tests to see how to know if I had a parasite b/c this morning it looked like an inch long white worm attached to a BM… is this evidence enough??? I’m SO SICK of this problem and want to be over it. How long is the process ? do you have to stay on it for 2 weeks, 2 months? Please help!!!!!! I’m beside myself and now getting pain in my back from not being regular as of this week… THANK YOU!!!!

This person went through *years* of misdiagnosis from doctors, attempted all kinds of natural remedies, and basically dug through mountains of medical literature before finding out what was wrong with them—turns out it was a parasitic infestation of 2 microscopic organisms (not worms), and an immune system inflammatory reaction to them. Read well and carefully, start with the “My Story” section. They detail how important it is to find a doctor who will take it seriously, and how to get the stool samples analyzed (normal sampling methods don’t work, because the parasites break down rapidly unless a fixative is used).

Hi there, I just recently found your blog and it is quite the resource for me! I’m so thankful. I’m so glad you have shared so much on this parasite issue. My son(3) and daughter(5) each had pinworms twice. Due to my ignorance(and the severity of my daughters infection) we treated both times with prescribed drugs. (second time around I did some dietary changes but not for an extended time) My husband and I did the medicine the first time around too.We have since done our own at home “flashlight tests” to check on both of them over the last 6 months and they have not had them again. My concern is for my son, who seems to have developed dark circles under his eyes after the second infection of them last July. Do you have any perspective on this? Also, would bone broth benefit by bringing healing to his gut? (he has had food sensitivity to peanuts, citrus, strawberries since he began eating food at 11 months) (he was breastfed until then). Is there a regular “parasite detox” regimine that is safe for me to administer to the kids? How would I need to change some of your doses recommended to be kid friendly? Can my son use diatemecious earth?Thank you for your time!!!

hi Mackenzie. How did you finally get rid of the pin worms? My 3 year old daughter ended up one night in the hospital, screaming, tummy on fire, and had frequent urination ( like 20 times an hour) plus appendicitis like attacks. The emergency doctor told me it was in her head, and that most likely she was developing an ear infection. This was now my 4th visit to an emergency doctor that week. I demanded a stool sample, and the doctor told me that there is no way she had pin worms since she wasn’t ‘digging for gold” ( no itchiness what so ever). She also did the sticky cellophane test. The cellophane test came positive for pin worms, but the stool sample did not. Instead it came back positive for two other parasites: blasto homosis, and the other trapezias one. So she is on her third dose of vermox, but every two weeks her symptoms come back, and my family doc told me ( and he is an amazing doctor) , that most people have blasto homosis and trapezias one and that’s not a big deal. so any hints on how to beat this? I have started her in the morning on probiotics, pumpkin seeds at noon, and dt earth at night. I also am washing her bum in hot water in the morning and night, and changing her underwear twice a day. I also steam the house twice a week using a steam mop and do the sheets now every 3 days ( I got so sick and tired of washing all THE sheets for almost 5 weeks every day that I gave up especially since her symptoms return anyways). so any other hints anyone? I also dewormed the whole family. She is the only one who has tummy pain and constant frequent urination .

Nursing isn’t preferable either as toxins can transfer through the milk, but in some cases it can be better to detox than to keep passing on whatever the issue is, but I’d definitely work with a health practitioner of some kind on it…

    2. Kim Avatar

      Hi Teresa,

I suffered from bloating/gas for 5 years and saw every kind of doctor,
including acupuncture, massage, GI doc, etc. Stool tests, blood tests, etc. My
joints ached (left shoulder, hips and tail bone). I had two colonoscopies and
the 2nd one diagnosed ulcerative colitis, which apparently has “no known
cause and no known cure” according to the GI doc. B.S. I had to take things
into my own hands. First I started a no sugar, no gluten, no dairy diet. That
helped my symptoms about 50% (no more blood in stool, but still mucus). I
thought I might have Candida. I also took Aloe Vera juice, Vit D and probiotics
(very important). Then I started a series of liver flushes with colonics. Read
“The Amazing Gallbladder and Liver Flush” by Andres Moritz. After I
completed my 3rd liver flush, I noticed I passed some liver flukes and some
other unidentifiable parasites. Totally gross, but I finally figured out why I
has the ulcerative colitis. I also saw a NAET practioner and she had done some
muscle testing for parasites. Evidently I have/had liver flukes, intestinal
flukes, pork tapeworm and lung flukes. She “cleared” me for these and
the next day I passed some more (big) nasty stuff. I also just started taking
the diatomaceous earth, so we will see if that helps. I am nursing a baby so I
cannot take the strong herbs to kill the parasites, but we will see if the DE
works and keep doing the liver flushes. The author of the liver flush book
believes that if you keep your liver & colon clean, the body will slowly
take care of the parasites. if your body is in balance. I bet 100% you have
some parasites. It is no use going to a medical doctor because they think you
can only get them if you have traveled abroad and they would only prescribe
some really strong anti-parasitics that don’t kill the eggs, but kill your
liver. Parasites are so prevalent in the USA and most people have them… I
think most IBS is parasite related. In any case, you sound like me so I just
      wanted to share my story.

I saw you mentioned taking bentonite clay on occasion. Have you ever mixed the clay with the acv, and then added a bit of water? I do this, and found that using the vinegar is the easiest way to get clay to mix easily, but was curious if mixing the acv with the clay, would cause the clay to not work as properly? Any thoughts? I’ve had no luck searching for this answer..

My husband and I have been taking ACV for a couple of months now. We take 2-3 tsp. in 5 oz. can of V8 juice twice daily and you can hardly taste it. I also have been putting in it 3-4 drops of oregano oil to clear up some nasty virus I had beginning in January 2015 and still have phlegm (sp) April 2015. I read it was a natural antibiotic. I’ve read recently oregano oil is good for parasites too. Also, have started coconut oil pulling which is suppose to be detoxing as well it makes your teeth really white. Also we are taking 2 Tblsp of organic, unrefined coconut oil daily which is suppose to have detoxing qualities as well as good for your brain. We have a grapefruit tree so we’ve started juicing 1 grapefruit each, twice a day and it really helps in elimination and suppose to be good for numerous things. I researched that online and found all the ways it’s suppose to be good for you. Good thing we have a tree as that’s 28 grapefruit per week :).

I used to work for a homeopath in Utah who specialized in parasite extraction. He used herbs from an amish run company out in Killbuck, Ohio who make the most awesome remedies for parasites and yeast. Their herbs can get you parasite free in 3 – 6 days (kills the eggs too), depending on the species. My boss helped me overcome severe endometriosis without hormones nor surgery. Infact, after working with him and using the amish products I was able to have kids. One tip tho, when people had tapeworms and roundworms we would give them shots of ozonated olive oil. The ozone in the oil would kill off the adult roudworms/tapeworms almost immediately.

To Dorothy: How did you treat/cure endometriosis without hormones or surgery. I was surgically diagnosed in 2009 and was told I must be on birth control at all times unless I’m pregnant or trying to get pregnant. I would love to get off of birth control but I’m also terrified that the endometriosis will take over if I do. Also, I still nursing my tot… so any treatments need to be breastfeeding-friendly as he’s showing no signs of wanting to stop. Thank you!

And to WellnessMama: I love your blog and refer to it often! Thank you!

I live in Utah and need a doctor who will listen to me. Who did you work for?

    6. Julie Avatar

is this company still on line now? I need to buy some of their product please. I have tried the ozonated olive oil and it did not work – what company should I get that from. Thanks for your time.

Do you remember what he gave you?? I too am suffering with yeast overgrowth. I have crohns, had 2 major surgeries with antibiotic overkill for at least a year straight. After my last surgery the pain appeared. I now have endometriosis. I have tried everything although it’s hard to stick to the strict diet. I am now making my own oil of oregano and coconut oil capsules and take 3 times a day. I am buying the DE to try. The thing is, I don’t have a colon to expel the waste so it comes out through my skin. I just bought some bentonite clay that I’m bathing in, this king of ingesting as I use to before when I had my colon.

Lol: Cigarette smoking, drinking fluoridated water and eating sugar or carbohydrates are symptoms of having a parasite? Nope.

I think she was saying they increase your risk for having higher levels of yeast. The article was about both parasites and yeast overgrowth.

hello, so I took diatomaceous earth over the course of 3 days. I took a teaspoon the first day then I took a larger amount the next two days but not quite a full tablespoon. Well I can’t tell you how sick I became. I got cramps that were so painful I was doubled up from them and diarrhea that was like water every 20 min to a half hour for four days straight. I also had chills and headache. It was like having food poisoning but instead of it just lasting 24 hours it just went on and on. So, I stopped taking it Thursday, the day the cramping started and then was sick that day then Fri, Sat, Sun and now on Monday it seem to have calmed down a bit but I still feel like I have a bad flu and had to call off work. What does all this mean? I am confused as to how to proceed. Was this reaction an allergic one? Or is it do to how much waste was in my intestine and I should continue the use? I am also wondering, if it is due to the amount of parasites present and I stop now will that strengthen them? Has anyone had such a strong adverse reaction to DE? What should I do?

It can cause a pretty severe die off reaction like that. Was the brand you used definitely food grade, not pool grade? I would assume so, just wanted to check since that could make you really ill. My guess is that you just worked up too quickly… some people need to take 1/2 teaspoon or less and work up very slowly, only adding in another 1/2 teaspoon or so every few weeks. If you had that severe of a reaction, it means your body isn’t able to process everything it is eleminating, so I’d definitely rest for a while and then reintroduce veeeerrrry slowly if it were me. Good luck and hope you feel better soon…

      1. albert Avatar

thank you for your answer. yes, i double checked once i started getting sick and it is food grade. i’ll do as you suggest here and wait til I feel better and then start very very small and slowly.

Honestly–I tried that too-(D.E.)-with 1/2 tsp..and it made me ill ! I’d start with 1/8 tsp, scant…lol…. Some people can handle more. I can’t-some people are delicate to new meds being introduced into their systems and bodies. I’m trying raw garlic,.pineapple and coconut oil. Best to take baby steps-then shock your insides-where you can’t even function! You want to eliminate the parasites–but NOT poison yourself! I still will do more research.

It’s the die off of the parasites, do not stop what you are doing. Going to slowly drags it out to long, it’s the biggest mistake people make when they first start these parasite protocols. You will Feel the sickness (flu like symptoms) for a week or two then they go away and you will feel amazing….

That sounds exactly like what happened to me. Did you continue with de and did the side effects improve??

I had the same problem and found out that I had Blastocystis Hommis which is difficult to get rid of. I ended up taking a prescription antibiotic SMZ – TMP 800/160 for almost 6 weeks and then have to deal with getting the good intestinal flora back. Metroconizole didn’t work for me.

      1. Lyn Avatar

Hi Diane, how are you doing? I had the same parasite in my intestine. How did you cure yours? its been 2 years . Can you please share me on how did you cure yours? Thanks you.

      2. brittany Avatar

did you get rid of Blasto with the Smz-tmp antibiotic? what does smz-tmp stand for?

    2. Helen Avatar

I don’t know how long it’s been since you posted this, but I’ll reply anyway. Summer Bock has a great program on gut rebuilding that is incredibly expensive, but effective. She has some great protocols that really make a difference. If you stay on her mailing list long enough, you will probably get a discount offer — for me, it was worth waiting.

Look up the alkaline diet and see if that makes a difference for you and figure out how to get the levels of hydrochloric acid higher, as they are likely low. Digestive bitters can help. Addressing leaky gut issues can make your gut an inhospitable place for parasites to reproduce.

I take diatomaceous earth while nursing, but I started with really small doses and worked up. I also sometimes take bentonite clay. Most of the others are too strong while pregnant or nursing and you don’t want to detox quickly or the toxins can be passed through your milk.

I am currently breastfeeding a 6 month old. I started taking DE 1/4 teaspoon and now at 1/2 teaspoon. I am worried about toxic die off in milk. Are there signs I should watch for? Did you continue taking it while nursing?

  17. Heather Avatar

I just started taking DE 2 weeks ago and after 3 days I started what I thought was a 2 week early period which never happens to me. I’ve been bleeding ever since. Could this be a detox effect if I possibly had fibroids or cysts? I wanted to wait for the bleeding to stop before going to the doctor because I refuse to take birth control as a solution. It does more harm than good. Have you ever had a case where this has happened? On a positive note, the earth has really helped ease my Crohn’s Disease symptoms! 😀

I haven’t heard of this. There is a possibility for a detox reaction, but I’d definitely check with a doctor. I’m with you though on refusing the birth control!

I have heard of this…. after reading so much about parasitic invasions…. cause I had cysts…ovarian… and endometriosis… I read Hulda Clark’s theory on the parasite encapsulates itself to prevent the body from attacking it as the outer skin is your own, the cyst casing so to speak…. and so you treat yourself… and the cyst or cysts burst and then your body can get them!!!!

      1. Karen Avatar

Thanks for commenting, Peggy Hicks. I wonder if that is what I have been enduring here also. I’ve had abdominal pain about 3 yrs and my doctor said she believes it is an ovarian cyst. A year ago she said that the cyst may go away on it’s own.. 4 days ago, I began using something called a parazapper (an electronic device similar to the one sold by Dr. Hulda Clark). I put that little machine over the top of what I thought was an ovarian cyst and I was so surprised to feel the pain begin to diminish, almost immediately. Within 24 hours not only is the pain going away, I feel as though there was a blockage that is beginning to open up. I am experiencing change in bowel movements as well as flatulence and a big reduction of bloating. Amazing. I feel as tho I am losing excess weight too. So glad to hear your affirmation as to what I’ve been thinking just before I read this webpage! Did your cysts go away and if so, may I ask what efforts you put forth to bring upon their reduction and or demise? ~ Karen

I take it while nursing, but I started slowly with a small dose and worked up to make sure there wasn’t a die off reaction.

I am nursing my 16 month old. When you say that you started off with a small dose, do you mean that you started off with 1 tsp? Or less? Or do you just mean that you eased up to 1-2 tbspns slowly. TIA for your reply.
