A few years ago, on a quest to find the most healthy options for my family, including a newborn baby, I discovered that to find products that truly met all of my specifications, I’d have to make them myself.
So, from soaps to teas, shaving cream to toothpaste, I did just that. I’ve shared most of these recipes with you already, and hope they’ve been useful to you.
I gave these homemade items to family and friends, hoping to encourage them to choose more natural options (that work better!) in their own lives. Well, it worked, and they kept asking for more. So, reluctantly, I added “maker of various herbal sundries” to my many hobbies and titles.
Eventually, it got to the point where the requests were so frequent that I had to start ordering ingredients in bulk, and I decided to share my creations on a larger scale. I offered my teas, soaps and spices at a few events, to a great response.
Then, the re-order requests came, and people wanted to order them online, so the Herbal Katie Website was born.
My Dilemma…
I never planned to mention Herbal Katie on Wellness Mama, because writing this blog is a fun hobby that hopefully helps some people, but not a business, and I’m not trying to “sell” anything.
Well, I’ve gotten several emails in the last few weeks asking for the best sources of some of these products, and I can recommend Herbal Katie products with the most confidence, since I make them myself and know exactly what is in them.
I decided that I should mention Herbal Katie products to you all, in case you are interested, but I’m not one to be a “pushy salesman.” I want to be able to offer you my soaps, teas and spices if you are interested, and to be able to give you a great deal on them.
Herbal Katie Products:
Right now, I offer organically made soaps, teas and spices at Herbal Katie. All ingredients are certified organic and fair trade.
The soaps are made with a base blend of food-grade organic saponified oils of Coconut, Olive, Palm and Palm Kernal and scented and colored with herbs and essential oils. I use rosemary extract to preserve them, and don’t add any artificial ingredients or colors. The glycerin that is naturally created during the soap making process is added back in to make a moisturizing soap that won’t clog pores and won’t dry skin.
I’ve used these soaps on newborn babies and have customers who have eczema, dermititis and skin allergies, who are all able to use them without problem. Due to the high oil content, these soaps also last much longer than detergent based soaps that you find at a regular store.
My teas are hand-blended from organic medicinal strength herbs to make a delicious and health-promoting blend. They can also be made into a tincture for long term storage and for a stronger dose.
The Synergistic Spice Blend is basically the only all-purpose spice I keep in my kitchen and I use it in everything. It contains Basil Leaf, Oregano Leaf, Rosemary Leaf, Thyme, Garlic Powder, Ground Turmeric Root, Cayenne Pepper Powder, and Himalayan Sea Salt and I use it in everything from omelets to casseroles.
