How a Billionaire Plans to Fix Education, Make Disease Optional and Land on the Moon With Naveen Jain

Today is really a special episode and one I’ve been excited about for a long time. Naveen Jain is not only a good friend but also one of the most intelligent and impressive people I’ve ever met. If you haven’t heard of him (yet), he’s the entrepreneur and philanthropist behind Viome, the gut health testing company I’ve talked about several times on the blog.

What makes Naveen so inspiring is his drive to solve the world’s biggest challenges through innovation and giving back. And fun fact, his company Moon Express is the only private company with permission from the U.S. government to leave orbit and land on the moon!

Naveen Jain: “The Crazies Change the World”

Are your dreams so big you’re afraid to believe in them? If not, Naveen says it’s a sign you’re not dreaming big enough:

Dream so big people think your dreams are crazy. The crazies are the ones that change the world. Never be afraid to fail because you only fail when you give up. Everything else is just a pivot.

This is exactly what Naveen sets out to do every day. Keep going, think big, and solve the most pressing problems the world is facing. He believes it’s possible to find entrepreneurial solutions to address the biggest global challenges in health, education, women’s empowerment, and more.

Naveen’s newest company, Viome, promises to revolutionize healthcare. Since all the studies point to a root cause for most modern diseases — an imbalance in the gut — Naveen believes this gut testing technology will make health a given and illness a choice. With this picture of our individual body chemistry, we can learn how to avoid disease in the first place.

Naveen always has incredible things to say, so enough from me… turning it over to him!

In This Episode You’ll Learn

  • the role of fear and failure in entrepreneurship
  • why the private sector may have more power than the government to solve big problems
  • what Naveen tried to teach his 3 kids about life (and how he did it)
  • why the healthcare system isn’t broken
  • how the gut microbiome determines our health
  • why Naveen chose healthcare as his area of work… and his next project
  • how Viome gut testing works, and my experience with it
  • what the world’s top genetic experts told me
  • the future of education (if Naveen has anything to do with it)
  • Naveen’s top 3 tips for living a better, healthier, richer life starting today
  • and more!

Many Thanks to Today’s Podcast Sponsors

This podcast is brought to you by Beekeeper’s Naturals. Our healing relationship with bees goes way back. Humans have been benefiting from bees and their nourishing superfoods since prehistoric times, from Cleopatra using honey to keep her youthful glow to Hippocrates prescribing propolis to cure everything from sores to bacterial infection. Beekeepers Naturals is dedicated to bringing the age-old benefits of bee products to modern times. They offer really high quality propolis, royal jelly, bee pollen, raw honey, and many other products. And all of these are sustainably sourced from a company that is dedicated to protecting and improving the bee population. My personal favorites are their propolis spray, which helped me head off a scratchy throat, and their B.LXR mix which is a mixture of all their bee products as a natural brain boost I use to stay sharp on busy days. You can check them out at wellnessmama.com/go/beekeepers.

This podcast is also brought to you by Good Culture. Good Culture makes amazing cottage cheese. I know, I know, not necessarily two words you would put in the same sentence on everyday speaking. But theirs is awesome, I promise, even if you don’t love cottage cheese. Basically, it’s naturally fermented cottage cheese so it’s free of gums, fillers, and additives and it’s packed with probiotics. And because it’s made naturally it doesn’t have that weird mouth feel that a lot of cottage cheese has. So, I use it all the time in cooking and smoothies as a substitute for other types of cheese, or just a meal on the go. You can find it at Whole Foods and many other grocery stores and it comes in yogurt-sized cups too, and those are perfect for meals. Check them out. It’s Good Culture and they are available at many grocery stores.

  1. What was he talking about having the kids watch every day rather than soaps and comedies? I couldn’t quite understand what he said. Thank you. 🙂

  2. Thanks for the great podcast, I would love to try viome! I clicked the link above for the special offer, but don’t see anything except the regular price. Please provide link for special offer 🙂

    Thank you!

  3. Great podcast! You are always so informative and enjoyable to listen to, Katie. It was enlightening to hear Naveen’s perspective on so many important topics. I do have a question re: Viome. Why is one test not sufficient? Why is it necessary to do a recurring yearly membership? Thank you.

    • Thanks for your kind words! The reason is because the gut and microbiome is always changing depending on what you eat and many environmental factors, so the recommendations are right now could be completely different in 6 months depending on those.

      • Ahh, that makes sense. Thank you! 🙂

  4. Amazing amazing amazing are just three words I can think of! What an inspiring man Katie thank you so much for bringing him on. I’ve also got a huge back story of autoimmune thyroid, adrenal, PCOS issues and am dead set on making a difference by contributing to this wellness revolution – studying for an NTP course as we speak and going on to do more. Also wanted to say Katie that I’m based in Dubai and I listen to your podcasts religiously every week! they have SO changed my life – I found my glutathione issues because of your advice and that of your amazing guests, I’m currently undergoing Chelation therapy having discovered massive issues with heavy metals – I only had the confidence to get them tested because of you and your podcasts. I can’t thank you enough.

  5. Just to add to the above and to get to my question..
What I wanted to ask in relation to DNA testing and Viome was your advice on what the differences are between the types of DNA testing i.e. the 23andme which I have done versus the Viome and other options out there. What would you recommend having researched it so much? I’m definitely going ahead with Viome as I’d love to further tweak my diet to support my bio-individual needs but it would be good to also have the knowledge as to how the testing differs so I can advise others when I start my practice here and start changing the world from Dubai 🙂 thank you so much again Katie for everything you do. I wouldn’t be where I am health wise or quality of life wise without you. What you do is SO important for people x

    • Sarah, I have the same question. Katie, if you could pick one test, would you choose Viome or Nutrition Genome? Thank you! Listening to Naveen was inspiring!

      • It depends on what you’re trying to accomplish, as they are completely different tests so it’s not an apples to apples comparison…

  6. What is the special offer for Viome that it states is offered for podcast listeners? I followed the link, however, I see no difference in price or features from going directly to their site via Google. Is the link not working or am I missing something? Also, thank you for another amazing podcast! You have helped me heal from mold, remain confident when my child is sick, and have hope for helping family members become healthier.

  7. I think this is a great person, I would like to be more useful in this world, I also want to be of service.
