I’m super happy to finally get to share about an amazing new company that I’ve been using like crazy lately. In fact, I was so excited about this company that I said “heck yes!” when I was asked to be an advisor (and investor) with them so that I could help them choose products moms and families need most.

Wholesome Food- Wholesale Prices

The company is called Thrive Market and it is a cross between Costco meets Whole Foods online. Think Costco wholesale pricing on Whole Foods quality foods and brands with the convenience of purchasing through Amazon.

Thrive has great prices on a lot of our non-perishable staples and household items. In particular, I’ve bought a lot of our common household goods and foods from them, such as:

Great Prices on Great Products

Thrive Market is the first socially conscious online marketplace offering the world’s best-selling natural and organic products at wholesale prices. For less than $5 a month ($59.95 annually), members can shop 2,500 of the highest quality food, supplements, home, personal care, and beauty products from more than 400 of the best brands on the market, all delivered straight to their doors at 25-50% below retail prices.

This innovative marketplace offers healthy brands like Weleda, Dr. Bronner’s, Spectrum Naturals, Garden of Eatin’, Bob’s Red Mill, Nature’s Path, Eden Foods, Earth’s Best, Seventh Generation, Garden of Life, Jason Naturals and many more!

I did a side by side comparison of many of their products, and not only are they less expensive than the same organic and natural products on Amazon or at my local stores, but they are often cheaper than the conventional alternative. For instance:

  • Natural laundry detergent at the same price (or slightly less) that conventional chemical detergent
  • Organic and chlorine-free diapers and wipes for the same price as Pampers or Huggies
  • Natural floss, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. for less than conventional store bought
  • Coconut aminos for the same price as regular soy sauce
  • Grass fed beef jerky for less than store bought regular beef jerky

In fact, I saved over $72 when I ordered three of our usual monthly products on Thrive compared to Amazon or local stores:

Thrive only carries non-perishables, so they won’t be a replacement (or a competitor) to local farmers and farmers markets, but they offer a less expensive and socially conscious alternative to non-perishable products often bought online. Our family is now buying many of our non-perishables and household products from them and supporting our local farmers and economy with our produce and meat purchases.

Free Shipping

Thrive Market also offers free shipping on orders over $49 to anywhere in the continental US. I try to order one big order a month and my shipping has always been free by doing this since I always have a bigger order. This is comparable to Amazon, plus Thrive membership is less expensive than Amazon Prime.

Thrive Gives

One of the things that really attracted me to Thrive Market and motivated me to invest in them was their social mission. For every membership purchased, Thrive gives a free membership to a low-income family to help make real food affordable to everyone.

Thrive is also committed to the environment by using recycled packaging and making sure that all of their own packaging is recyclable as well. They also purchase carbon offsets and are completely carbon neutral.

I’ve met the founders and team at Thrive and they are all very excited about the mission of Thrive and making real food more affordable and available, but they also all live and eat this way too.

Trial Membership

I’m not a fan for signing up for things without trying them first (in fact, I waited until I had a friend’s pass to visit Costco before signing up when we used to live near one) and I’m guessing you aren’t either.

Important!

Thrive Market is a new company with a big mission. Some popular items may be out of stock temporarily while they deal with minor growing pains. If something you are looking for is out of stock, please check back in a day or two and have a little patience!

Curious if you can speak to the quality of the wines that Thrive Market sells? We love Dry Farm Wines but can’t always afford to order from them. Would you say the Thrive Market wines are of comparable quality? Obviously, they aren’t the same, but are they close as far as sugar, additives, etc go?

Thrive’s wines are better than most you’ll find at the local wine store, but they don’t undergo the same testing or have the same standards as Dry Farm Wines. So if price is an issue, then Thrive’s are good, but Dry Farm’s are better 🙂

Thrive is the same cost as whole foods. Sprouts and Natural Grocers is far cheaper than Thrive. I shop there all the time. I thought they said they cut out the middleman and all they are really doing is banking it. I can get pea crisps for a $1.50 as one example. Their price is $1.79. Ive looked at everything I buy normally plus other items I wish I could get that’s only at Whole foods. Same price even with Thrive Markets so called discount. It’s obvious they are lying.

That’s interesting. Thanks for sharing your perspective. I think prices must also vary a lot by location. I’ve also compared prices where we live and things are substantially cheaper, and they carry foods I can’t get locally, but I also completely understand that this isn’t the case everywhere.

I have been using Thrive for almost two years and I have recently become very frustrated by them and feel like they aren’t a very honest company. I emailed them about the price of their Happy Baby infant formula which on their site was listed as $39.99 (which was $10 more than the price on the Happy Baby website as well as other stores.) and the msrp price was $99.99 which is completely misleading to consumers! I emailed them and in their emails back they said things like “we receive our price directly from the supplier” and “we ensure at least a 15% savings” and “our profit comes from the membership price”. After a few emails like this another person emailed back saying that their merchandising team was updating the price to be accurate. But then I looked on their website and the price was updated to $31.99 ($51.29 msrp). Seriously?? Even though it’s only a few dollars higher than other stores and the retailer they are still exaggerating the msrp price and misleading customers about their savings. There is no doubt in my mind that they do this with many other products as well. I just think people should be aware of this and that Thrive’s claim that they sell products without a mark-up is false. They most certainly are making money off of your membership and certain items that they mark-up.

I ordered my first Thrive. Many items were missing with no explanation if they were on back order or just unavailable. All it said at the bottom was that I saved $29.00. No itemized prices and no total amount of what my credit card was charged what kind of company does this?

Could I use thrive and have stuff delivered to whatever address I choose? My sister and I talked about splitting the membership price, but we live in different states.

Iherb.com is a great option for the Philippines! They ship all over the world and also have reduced rates.

I noticed a lot of negative feedback, so I wanted to check Thrive out for myself, and address some of the issues that others have had. I spent hours going back and forth between Thrive and Vitacost, in order to compare many items.
For every item I selected, Thrive was cheaper…and by a lot. I only selected food items: pasta sauce, noodles, oils, etc.
The other feedback was regarding Thrive selling ‘questionable’ brands. Well, I haven’t been to a store that DOESN’T sell ‘questionable’ brands…online or brick and mortar!
Regarding the cancellation policy…I agree that they need to cancel membership immediately; however, I also like that they give you an opportunity to keep your membership for a reduced cost. How could one complain about that?!
Then there is the membership cost. It is too expensive. They will have to reduce that in order to keep/get customers. Personally I hate paying membership fees.
Finally, regarding Katie investing in Thrive…who cares?! For one, I don’t think she would steer us in the wrong direction for any reason (hello, we keep her blog running, right?); and two, if she invests in a company that makes money, great. Don’t we invest in products that we purchase and like? I’m not going to invest in Walmart if I don’t agree with Walmart!
And maybe we should cut Katie some slack here. I appreciate that she took the time to check Thrive out, and then inform me about them so that I could make a decision.
    So thanks Katie!
