There are two supplements have made an almost-instant and noticeable difference in my daily life: magnesium and phytoplankton.
The first, magnesium, is relatively common and many people now understand the importance of this vital mineral. The other, phytoplankton, is more obscure but equally important to me.
I’m talking about both in this post because I order them both from Activation Products. Activation is run by a friend of mine, Ian Clark, who recovered his health after suffering from liver disease and several other serious problems by using micronutrients and several key supplements.

Why Magnesium?
I’ve written about magnesium many times because it literally changed my life. Magnesium has improved by sleep, my skin, and my digestion. Even more important… it improved my kids’ sleep (which further helped my own sleep).
Magnesium is often called “the master mineral” for a reason. It is necessary for hundreds of important functions in the body.
Many modern activities deplete magnesium, including:
- Eating sugar
- Drinking things with caffeine
- Stress
- Drinking alcohol
- Lack of sleep
- Processed food
- Certain medications
Ever dealt with or consumed any of those things? I thought so!
How Magnesium Works
Thankfully, this was an easy problem to solve for me. I just needed to increase my magnesium intake. When I started learning about magnesium, I realized that I wasn’t absorbing it well due to some gut issues I was working through. Food and internal supplements didn’t make much difference for me, other than creating some intestinal distress.
When I discovered transdermal (topical) magnesium, I noticed the difference immediately. And it isn’t just me.
The National Institute of Health reports:
Some observational surveys have associated higher blood levels of magnesium with lower risk of coronary heart disease [50-51]. In addition, some dietary surveys have suggested that a higher magnesium intake may reduce the risk of having a stroke [52]. There is also evidence that low body stores of magnesium increase the risk of abnormal heart rhythms, which may increase the risk of complications after a heart attack [4]. These studies suggest that consuming recommended amounts of magnesium may be beneficial to the cardiovascular system.
Personally, I now use transdermal magnesium every day and use it on my children as well. Topical magnesium is great because the body will only absorb what is needed and it doesn’t stress or tax the digestive system. It will also be absorbed even if there are gut issues that inhibit absorption.
The Best Type of Magnesium
After much research, I settled on the magnesium chloride hexahydrate (MCH) form (this is the exact one I use), which is easily used by the body and which doesn’t cause skin dryness like other forms did (at least for me). Check out this video to learn more about it:
Why Phytoplankton?
This somewhat obscure supplement is a powerhouse of nutrients that benefits the body in many ways:
I’ll be the first to admit… it doesn’t taste great, but I take it daily because it makes me feel great!
Phytoplankton is a micro-algae single-celled organism. It contains important substances like trace minerals, chlorophyll, essential amino acids, DHA, EPA, carotenoids, antioxidants, nucleic acids, and several vitamins.
You may guess by the name that phytoplankton comes from the ocean. It is also vital for all life on earth because it helps create over 90% of the world’s oxygen supply!
NASA calls Phytoplakton:
the most important plant in the world…
This is due to its oxygen creation and because it is the food supply for much marine life. Amazingly, marine phytoplankton only makes up about a quarter of the vegetation on earth, but provides much more than this amount of food supply for marine life.
This is because it reproduces very quickly and is a very sustainable food source.
Phytoplankton and Human Health
Marine phytoplankton has this same oxygenating and detoxifying effect on the body as it does on the ocean. In fact, several researchers believe it is vital for the future of natural medicine due to the hundreds of synergistic elements in phytoplankton.
