5 benefits of Fasting, Autophagy, Diet Variation & Cellular Healing with Dr. Daniel Pompa

The first time I heard Dr. Daniel Pompa speak about cellular healing and how to achieve it, I was floored! I knew I had to find out more. In fact soon I’ll be going through Dr. Pompa’s training program and recently completed a 7-day water fast at his recommendation. Although it sounds terrible, I actually felt amazing during this fast and was very impressed by the positive changes, which I confirmed through blood testing. (Do you sense a new post coming? … )

Dr. Pompa on Deep Cellular Healing

One of Dr. Pompa’s favorite sayings is, “You have to fix the cell to get well.” This in a nutshell is the difference between his detox program and others.

For the past two decades, Dr. Pompa, PSc.D, has been practicing and teaching his True Cellular Detox program around the world with amazing results. In fact he’s on a mission to educate practitioners and the public on the origins of inflammation-driven disease. He’s widely acknowledged as a leading expert on the ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting, diet variation, and ancestral-based health approaches to heal the body on the cellular level.

If you struggle with weight, hormone balance, allergies, chronic disease, or autoimmunity, this episode is one you won’t want to miss!

In This Episode You’ll Learn

  • how Dr. Pompa overcame heavy metal poisoning using his unique cellular detoxification strategies
  • Dr. Pompa’s 5R approach to cellular healing (Remove, Regenerate, Restore, Reduce, Re-establish)
  • how to reset genes, heal the gut, and create new stem cells just by fasting
  • when supplements makes sense … and when they don’t
  • an introduction to autophagy, a natural way to help the body heal itself on the cellular level
  • what a 5-day water fast can do for allergies and autoimmune conditions
  • how frequently we really need to eat (hint: it’s not 3 square meals a day)
  • how to use diet variation and intermittent fasting to have more energy and think more clearly
  • the key to hormone optimization (bonus: it’s free!)
  • and more!

This podcast is brought to you by Vivos. This is something we recently invested in for our entire family and we are absolutely loving it. Here’s why: studies show that the nutrition we receive in utero determines our palate development and how narrow or open our airway and jaw structure are. So a narrow mouth, jaw, and airway increase the chances of needing braces, getting sleep apnea, having breathing difficulties, and much more. Contrary to popular belief that jaw structure is permanent after the first couple of years of life, Vivos widens the jaw and airway in an non-invasive, non-surgical, easy way. I’ll be writing more about this soon but you can check them out, in the meantime, at wellnessmama.com/go/vivos

This podcast is also brought to you by Paleovalley. They make grass-fed beef and now pastured turkey sticks that are high in protein and nutrients and also a good source of probiotics because they’re naturally fermented. And they’re shelf stable so you don’t have to keep them refrigerated. We bring these along whenever we travel and our kids love them all time as part of an on-the-go meal. 1. Hi! I loved this podcast episode and I learned a lot. I came away with it with just one question. What about water fasting/ intermittent fasting/ ketosis for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding?? Personally, I am breastfeeding a 13 month old, so I’m more supplementing my daughter’s diet with breastmilk, but she still drinks a lot and I don’t want to risk loosing my supply. Sometimes I like to skip breakfast and it feels good to go a little while without food, but I’m afraid to go too long. Maybe I’m just paranoid? Are there certain types of long term fasts that would be okay, like the bone broth kind or something, or should I just ignore all of this until I’m finished breastfeeding?

I also plan to get pregnant again at some point. When I’ve been pregnant in the past, I feel better when I eat several snacks instead of meals, which I know is bad but it just helps me to feel less nautious (also, toward the end I can’t fit much in my stomach). Maybe there are other things at play there, but even when eating really healthy foods and supplements at all, even eating 3 normal meals a day and no snacks sounds kind of unattainable. So any tips there would be helpful too.

  2. For those of us who don’t have the financial resources to do join this detox what if any would be another alternative?

  3. I’m considering doing a 5 day or longer water fast but I have Hashimoto’s and am on thyroid medication. I was wondering if it’s recommended to take the medication while on the fast or forego it. It’s made only of water, geletin and thyroid hormone. I’m not sure if that will affect the fast or not.

  4. Did you drink espresso before doing this because you talk so FAST ! I love the content but sometimes it’s hard to understand and make out what you’re saying.

  5. I have hyperthyroidistis, and I am trying to gain weight or at least not lose anymore. I am intrigued by the intermittent fasting and keto diet for hormone regulation, however, I’m concerned that doing any sort of fasting or diet will make me lose even more weight. Can you direct me to any further information on this subject?

  6. Is fasting ok for breastfeeding mommas? 14 months post partem and still haven’t lost any weight ? . We follow WAPF guidelines.

  7. So my daughter who has a severe auto-immune disease has a few amalgam fillings. Should we have them removed? What kind of dentists know how to remove them appropriately?

    • Everything all the experts say, including Dr. Pompa is “yes”. Get them out by a Biological Dentist. That is one that knows that Mercury is unsafe and uses dental dams and other things to keep the person from reabsorbing and swallowing the mercury that is being removed. Otherwise, regular doctors are idiots and pretend it’s just fine and would let your child swallow and breathe in a lot of the mercury. You can look up Biological Dentists online and there are websites telling where those dentists can be found. Be aware that if you ask your regular dentist about it, he’ll swear its hooey and there’s no need to “go to all that trouble”. My state of Utah only had one Biological Dentist but I drove to him. They can easily remove both of your daughters fillings at the same time. Also, regular dentists will replace those fillings with cheap, heavy metal-filled white fillings. A Bio Dentist will replace them with better quality white fillings that don’t have the heavy metals. And per Dr. Pompa, when done, you need to use his CytoDetox and binders to remove the mercury that is in her system from getting the fillings…. See his website for info.

  8. I can’t get the yourdetoxchallenge.com link to work. Am I doing something wrong?

  9. This was awesome.

  10. What about woman that are pregnant or nursing? I’ve always been told you should never fast then.

  11. I thought this was interesting. But I have to say I didn’t understand how he arrived at the conclusion that he and the rest of his family were all suffering, in their own ways, from heavy metal poisoning and bio-toxicity. I was a bit alarmed to hear him say that his adopted son was “vaccine damaged”. I thought he sounded like he was making his own connections… like a conspiracy theorist. Also, off topic… he and his wife were convicted of stealing $1.4 million from the trust fund of their two adopted children. I’m sorry to say Katie but I’m not sure I can trust your guest on this podcast as a very reliable source.

    • I appreciate your perspective. I will say that his personal life and the adoption of his two children was the result of a traumatic situation. I’ve heard the story directly from him and there is certainly more to it that the accusations, but it isn’t more story to share or my place to judge. That said, I don’t think that directly relates to his credibility as a practitioner or researcher. I do know that he tested all of his family for heavy metals, he didn’t just randomly decide they were suffering, and his son did have damage that improved once metals were carefully removed. All that to say- irregardless of your feelings about Dr. Pompa, the benefits of fasting are well documented throughout history and in medical literature and I’d encourage you to do your own research on it from sources you trust.

    • Dr. Pompa was my chiropractor when we both use to live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Very caring and knowledgeable doctor. When he held health talks in his office, I would type up informational notes for him to hand out to anyone who came. I can attest to there being a real family trauma surrounding the situation as to why he adopted the children. I don’t know everything surrounding the trust fund issue, but it is none of our business. That happened quite a while ago and is behind him and the family. I do truly believe he is trying to heal and help those who need help and healing. He is obviously very knowledgeable and has not stopped learning or practicing.

      • After this podcast I was so motivated that I pulled together resources for my husband and I to join. I was particularly moved that Katie said during the cast that she looked forward to joining the challenge. However, one month in, and I am gravely concerned. Did you really sign up Katie?

I feel taken advantage of, and I am going to ask for some sort of refund if at all possible. His portal is fancy with videos, but all the information is not (the information is already out there and you have heard it already if you are in Katie’s community). There isn’t a community with the challenge as much as I was expecting. The monthly webinars are not interactive, and mostly seem to be Ben Greenfield taking about more pricey biohacking equipment we could buy. Other than that we got a mess of supplements to take. That’s really all I think we got: $1000 pills for 3 months.

        • I did sign up for the cleanse and am still on the regimen. I can understand your points, especially about the community. I do feel the cleanse is valuable, but if you don’t, please reach out to their team and see about a refund.

  12. Take your thyroid hormone.
I’m an RN and also have hypothyroidism.

  13. I feel like I should start with a fast. Any specific directions? Concerns to be aware of? I’m very healthy, exercise hard just about daily. I just struggle with an OVERGROWTH of Candida (for 20+ years), & I’ve approached age 40, & my cravings are out of control!!!! I need help.
I’m sure I’m taking supplements to mask underlying issues, too.
I have felt defeated for YEARS. Seems no one understands or even cares to help (except in pushing another Rx on me).
    I’m very “natural.”
I’m SO SCARED of fasting!!! ??
Please encourage me & give me ANY advice, counsel, tips, what to expect, etc.
    I want to commit.
I homeschool our 3 young boys, & I do a lot of meal prep in order to keep healthy meals on our table.
Will I be tempted beyond my capacity? ?
    Thank you SO much, Katie!!!

    • Hi Shireen, my name is Nicole and I am no expert .I’m just like you a homeschooling mother of 9 children. I have just read a great book on fasting that Dr Mercola highly recommends called “The Longevity Diet ” by Valter Longo .He explains how doing calorie reduced fasting is as good as water fasts and explains all of his scientific evidence and examples of a 2 week diet to achieve the same results you would on a water fast. I really want to encourage you to purchase the book if possible, i really think it would help you. I think it was about $20 – $ 30. Don’t give up.I Will pray for you. Kind regards, Nicole

  14. So, how do I know that this detox is worth $1000? It looks really appealing and I would LOVE to do it. I don’t have any major health problems, am 60 years old and in good shape. But looking at getting older? and I know health issues will only come home to roost if they are in there. I haven’t always had good health habits.
I love your podcast and am learning so so much. It has been a joy to share the info with others and experiment on myself.
Please tell me if it is really worth $1000! If it is I will gladly do it. Just need to know?
    Thank you!!!

    • Hi Dana and thanks for listening. I personally feel like it is worth it since it includes all the supplements, and I’m looking forward to doing it myself, but please do your own research and make sure you feel it is valuable too before considering sining up! 🙂

  15. Loved this podcast and like the questions before me would like to know more about water fasting, it’s safety and recommendations. Thank you for all of your research and work.

  16. Can I do the fast with Lyme disease? And can you take any supplements while no the fast ?

  17. Is it ok and safe to continue hard exercise (crossfit/running) during a water fast? And on intermittent fasting you stick to a more paleo style eatting? Or just no grains and sugar? Thank you 🙂 I found this extremely helpful! Because I have heard and followed all the myths about eatting

  18. Asking again, because it seems like you avoided answering any of the breastfeeding mommas. Why not answer? Would you IF if you were breastfeeding? It sounds like all of us are past 1 year, not like trying to fast with an infant. Any thoughts Katie? Or can you at least tell us why you won’t give a definite yes or no? Please & thank you!

    • I think I must have missed questions… wasn’t trying to avoid them! I personally would not fast while nursing, even with an older baby, because it might mess up milk supply and there are potential concerns with the harmful stuff stored in fat cells that is getting burned transferring to breast milk. That said, there may be cases where the benefits outweigh the risks, but I’d definitely work with a practitioner in that case.

  19. Thank you for this informative podcast! I learned a lot, but as many of the listeners, I wish fasting while pregnant and/or breastfeeding would have been discussed, since many of us are in that stage of life right now. All of the advice I get from midwives, my chiro, other moms, and much of what I read is “eat small frequent meals” or “lots of healthy snacks.” I am not interested in losing weight, but improving my health (and keeping kids/babies healthy) is always a goal…how can fasting be incorporated? It seems to me like intermittent fasting would work well, but perhaps not. Or maybe a water and veggie fast? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

  20. Hi Katie!
Have you tried the toxin binder he recommends, CytoDetox? Any recommendations for other options that do not require a liscensed ND to purchase?

  21. Thanks Katie!!!! ?

  22. Hi! What about surgeries, for example bunion surgery, and the pins that get put into the body? I would imagine that they’re metal. Is there a way to remove them and is that necessary? I’ve had tailor’s bunion removal surgery on both of my feet.

  23. Hello,
I had a question about fasting. Dr. Pompa states that anyone can fast even with bad blood sugar levels but what about people who are on many different medications? He says not to take supplements I know but then does that include Dr prescriptions? Thank you!

  24. I am disappointed in that focus is shifting towards making money through affiliations whose primary focus is also making money. Some information is questionable and skewed and unqualified by making clear which statements are backed by research and which are not. I could go on. Money is necessary reward for effort but this is too blatent.
