This week something happened that doesn’t happen often. I got mad. Not to say I don’t have bad days, but I rarely get in a pissed-off, mad-at-the-world mood. But this week I did.

Don’t get me wrong- I have days where I wish I kept my cool with my kids, or wish I stayed calm or got more done, but I don’t get truly angry very often.

I also typically try to keep my emotions in check, but today they were most definitely not and my poor husband had to bear the blunt end of my rant/venting session.

What made me mad?

The Dark Side of Blogging

Not my blog specifically (I love you guys, my readers, and I love to write) but the idea of blogging, the profession of blogging and all the things that happen behind the scenes that readers never see or hear about. The things that bloggers get sucked into and are forced to deal & compete with.

To preface, I should explain that the part that made me most angry is the perceived “selling out” of bloggers in various ways. This made me upset because I pride myself in writing ALL my own content, doing all my own research, making sure each article is super high quality and everything I ever link to, suggest or promote are products I personally use and love.

It makes me mad when I see other bloggers not extending their readers the same courtesy.

Here’s the thing…

From the outside, health bloggers often appear to be perfect human beings who cook gourmet meals three times a day, have impeccable style, washboard abs, and an incredible personality. We aren’t (at least not all of those things all the time).

Think about the pictures posted on facebook or instragram. You put your best foot forward. So do bloggers, but many of us are even more “filtered” since we are potentially exposed to and judged by thousands of people each day.

I sincerely hope that no mom ever comes to my blog and feels like she isn’t good enough because it seems like I “do it all” or “am a great mom all the time.” I assure you I’m not. I have laundry baskets full of clothes in my bedroom right now and yesterday’s clothes are still on the floor. We’ve eaten organic hotdogs three times this week because the Wellness Mama Cookbook (and dealing with Amazon) has taken over my life.

I don’t always cook three meals a day. Occasionally, I order Pete’s Paleo or from a local Japanese restaurant out of sheer convenience.

I don’t always make my own detergent and cleaning supplies. Sometimes it’s just easier (and saves time) to buy (natural) products at the store or online.

Sometimes I cry because of comments I receive on my blog or facebook (sometimes happy tears, but usually tears of sadness, hurt, or pain). I’m very much not a perfect mom. Nor a perfect human.

I blog to share things that have made my life easier or better and to hopefully help other moms, but I hope that everything I write encourages and uplifts and never makes another woman feel like she isn’t doing enough or isn’t good enough.

If you’ve ever felt that way- trust me…. you are good enough. You are doing enough. You are a great mom, and one lesson I’ve learned the hard way lately is that your children, your family, need you. Imperfect, wonderful, you.

Back to Blogging Though…

Certain things I’ve seen in the blogging world lately have really upset me because I felt like they crossed that line with their readers. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with bloggers making money. But I do have a problem with:

  • I have a problem with bloggers making money in a non-genuine way at the expense of their readers.
  • I have a problem with incestuous back-room affiliate deals. I have a problem with “I’ll promote your product if you promote mine.”
  • I have a problem when people duplicate my blog exactly for themselves, the design, every post and picture on the site, strip out my affiliate links and add their own, then claim everything as theirs.
  • I have a problem when other sites pull every post and picture of mine to use for themselves… to get more traffic so they can charge more for ads.
  • I have a problem with people copying content (both my content and that of others), stealing ideas and writing in an unauthentic voice solely for the goal of pushing more content out to the search engines. This annoys me because it isn’t about Google. It is about you. The readers. I don’t write for Google, I write for you!
  • I have a problem with the 100+ emails I get a day from people asking me to promote their stuff to my “list” (the people who subscribe to my email newsletter)

I don’t have a “list.” I have readers. I have friends. I have you. And you are the most important part of blogging to me.

And you know what? I’m not the only one who feels this way about the dark side of blogging.

I’m extremely aware, appreciative and grateful every single day for the amazing community that has grown through Wellness Mama. It is so much bigger than me. It is a group. A sisterhood. A family of moms who quite literally have the power to change the world. I don’t take that lightly. It annoys me when I see bloggers in the industry who do.

For me, blogging is really about creating a change for our kids. It isn’t about the money (though if that happens, it is great since we have six kids to feed, clothe and put through college one day) but that isn’t the goal. It is about making a healthier future for my children so they have decades and decades of health after college and so I get to live long enough to meet and enjoy my grandchildren.

I like to think/hope that I don’t have the amazing community that has developed here because I’ve written good articles about certain topics, but because I care about you. Because I want an actual (online) relationship with you. Because I care about the future for your kids as much as for my own.

I don’t want to be a “celebrity” from blogging (as some bloggers seem to want). In fact, this would utterly terrify me and get me so far out of my comfort zone I wouldn’t know who I was anymore. My goal isn’t to make millions, it is to HELP millions.

Someone else could copy my writing, copy my posts, copy all my ideas, but it wouldn’t be the same because the passion isn’t there. Because the world doesn’t need another blog post about how to make lip balm or magnesium body butter (which I did invent, btw), but the world needs more passion. It needs more people who care. If that is you- I am forever grateful for you… really! If you are passionate about your own goals, your own life, your own family and their health… you are changing the world more than the bloggers you see making tons of money and looking perfect on Instagram.

Because here is the deal… at the end of the day, it isn’t about me (and I’m super glad it isn’t!). I don’t use my last name. Not because I’m ashamed of it or have something to hide, but because it isn’t important (and because I value privacy for those six small children I mentioned). And because the movement, the “wellness mama idea”, is so much bigger than me.

I’m here because I want to make a change, not become famous.

My Blogging Struggle

It takes an incredible amount of time to make Wellness Mama what it is. Researching for posts. Taking photographs. Writing. Editing. Moderating comments. Social media promotion & communication. Etc.

It costs a lot of money to keep it running. Design & development costs. Hosting. Upgraded servers when traffic grows. Premium plugins. Email service. Etc. Etc. Etc.

The list goes on.

I’ve struggled with the fact that I could implement ads with the click of a button and make much more money that would help support my family and help fund a charity I’ve wanted to start for a long time (to provide sustainable food and clean water worldwide and to help distribute leftover food from farmers markets to soup kitchens, schools and food banks), but I’ve never made the jump because I personally hate ads and feel this would be “selling out.”

I want to make sure I’m always focused on you, but sometimes I don’t know the best way to do this. I make sure I don’t use spammy tactics to try to sell you things you don’t need. I don’t white label products that I didn’t create to make money. I moderate every comment so that the community is an uplifting and healthy environment for you to learn. I prominently display my affiliate policy so that readers are aware of my quality standards, practices, and promotion requirements.

I’ve struggled with the fact that I’m very much imperfect. WellnessMama.com has grown beyond my greatest goals and expectations. The blog gets a lot of traffic and in turn makes money through some of the products and resources I recommend.

I still feel like a failure because I’m not the perfect mom or the perfect wife. I think we all do. I’ve said it before, but I don’t think any mom goes to bed feeling like she has the whole wife/mother thing under control. I know I don’t. In fact, every day, I stress because of this incredible community that I love so much. Because I don’t always look, act and behave the way a “perfect” mom should. I think we all do.

So- long story short. Thank YOU so much for reading. For putting up with my rant. For caring about your family and the future of our children and our world.

At the end of the day, I don’t give a damn about just having your email address on my list. I want you to actually adopt the healthy changes I write and email about. To put in the time. To make a lasting change for your family. To say that your family’s life has improved because of changes you made. That is what matters to me.

2014 has been a tough year in many ways. The blog has grown. A lot. But I’ve made mistakes. I promoted a course (against my intuition) for someone that wasn’t a good fit… because I was too competitive. I started promoting an essential oils company (against my better judgement) because I thought there was an opportunity to help some friends make money. I self published the original Wellness Mama Cookbook, even though I had numerous offers from traditional publishers for upfront advances. And it’s wreaked havoc on my thyroid condition.

At the same time, 2014 has been an incredibly wonderful and rewarding year and I am grateful for everything this year has brought. I’ve made awesome friends who started as online friends and are now real life friends, like Heather, Genevieve, Emily, and Kelly (go check them out- they are amazing!). People like Sean, Steve & Jordan, Mary, and Christa. I finally found an amazing doctor who has helped me find answers for my thyroid struggles. And I finally finished writing my book!

My Pledge to You and a Question

So here is my pledge to you: I’m going to stop trying to be the “perfect” mom on the blog and social media. I’m going to stop stressing about answering every comment and start deleting those that don’t meet my requirements. I’m going to spend more time with family, even if that means I don’t post quite as often. I’m going to only create the most valuable, most helpful things I can and share those. I’m going to stop deleting posts because I feel like they aren’t good enough or might be met with resistance. I’m going to stop censoring my writing to meet the “squeaky clean Wellness Mama image” and let the real me shine through.

Because at the end of the day, I rarely feel like I’m good enough.

I feel inferior because I don’t look like Jennifer Aniston with the patience of June Cleaver and the culinary skills of Julia Childs. I feel imperfect because I don’t have 28 hours a day to get everything done that I want to accomplish.

In the coming weeks:

  • I’m going to be moving away from most “JV promotions” because they just don’t seem genuine to me.
  • I’m going to start creating more ebooks, courses, and products. Things that I enjoy doing and things that I wish I’d had when I started out…
  • I’m going to focus on creating more helpful and useful content for you.
  • I’m going to focus on enjoying my family and having balance and enjoying things more and stressing less.

This crazy world of blogging has led me to wrestle with several internal struggles lately, and rather than try to face them on my own, I figured I’d ask for your advice (it has never failed me before, so no pressure!).

I Want Your Opinion

1. What do you consider “selling out?” If I were to allow advertisers (carefully selected of course) would your opinion of WellnessMama.com as a trusted resource change?

2. How much of the “real me” do you want to see? Do you want more of the raw, uncensored Katie, or prefer the squeaky clean, “Wellness Mama” image?

3. Do you want me to create more courses, ebooks, and products for you or just recommend others?

4. What type of content and information will be most helpful to you moving forward? How can I best provide simple answers for healthier families for you?

Katie, you’re amazing! Just the fact that you’re upset with the things you’ve seen other bloggers do shows that you’re not a sell out. To me, a sell out is anyone that is just trying to make money or profit off their readers anyway possible or presents themselves one way and turns out to be totally different. You’ve never presented yourself as a perfect person or a perfect mom, but as one who is always learning and trying to pass along information to help those of us who don’t have the time or inclination to do the research. I have no problem with (well chosen) ads that don’t take over the blog. I don’t like when there are so many ads on a blog that you can’t even find the content you came for and I really hate when you go to a “natural” blog and the ads are for things like soda and candy. I know you while never do anything like that.

The way I feel is this is your job! You deserve to be paid. You deserve to have your family supported by the work you do. I have been reading for years and the information that I’ve received for free is mindboggling. I can’t believe how much you’re still able to help me even after all these years. I so appreciate what you do!

I would love to see a bit more of you, just because we as readers certainly get curious about the “real” Katie. I know I appreciate hearing “it’s been a crazy week so we picked up some healthy take out” instead of acting like you cook every single meal every single day. I think we all know no blogger is perfect but it’s helpful to see how we can take what we’re learning and use it to make the best choices even during the more difficult times, like a crazy week or during a touch pregnancy or during the first weeks of having a newborn.

I also do love the recommendations for products you truly support and would use at home. I make your toothpaste recipe but once in awhile, I just don’t have the ability to do it so knowing I can get some Earthpaste and be just as happy with the decision is great. And I woken definitely be interested in buying products you made. I love the idea of the lotions and have made several recipes but it’s just too much work and not so fun for me. I’d rather buy them, lol.

Anyway, long comment but you’re awesome and we love you!

I love the site and believe you are genuine to the core.
    1. Allow the advertisers YOU want to allow. If you make money and it helps you, that’s fantastic! It can also help us if we don’t know about that particular business.
    2. Let us have Katie. Raw, uncensored, squeaky clean, happy, angry, sad, all of it! We love you for you………be you.
    3. Personally I think the variety on the site is fantastic. You have great judgement in the content, categories and application to real life.

“Incestuous” is a good way to put what I see happening in blogger world… clicking on something that looks useful, only to find a summary or intro paragraph on that page and then at the bottom of the paragraph, you have to click YET ANOTHER link go to someone else’s website to get the full information. Is it “legal” to make money this way? Yes. Is it “ethical”? I’m not sure. Do I like it? NO, not at all. I realized I seemed to be going around in circles trying to get information from the same few websites, and wellnessmama.com was part of the mix. I feel it would show great integrity to find a more “honest” and less “annoying” way to make money online and I applaud you for having second thoughts about how you market your self and your interest in healthy living on the web. I really like your presence and your focus for what you’re doing, but these click-through links and referral links and “JV” things (I’m just now learning about this) are just serving to clutter up the web with chatter and ultimately make it a little harder to find valid information. Congrats on taking a second look/hard look at this rapacious system of monetized blogging.

    1. Katie - Wellness Mama Avatar

Hi Seale, I see where you are coming from. Unfortunately, the sites you are talking about are using my content excerpts without my permission to get more clicks to their website. I don’t ask or allow them to do that, but they are not “technically” breaking any laws so it is difficult to get them to stop and would take a lot of time I don’t currently have. I don’t make any money from their sites or their postings, and don’t get much traffic from them either. I’m sorry for your frustration about it- it frustrates me too!

  4. Marion Avatar

Your true intent shows throughout much of this rich blog content. I think you would apply your high standards to any ads you allow on your site. I actually appreciate the links to high quality products, it seems to mimic what happens in face-to-face interactions…my sister finds a great product and tells me all about it, or my aunt shares secrets of how she stretched the food budget to feed 5 kids.

Letting yourself show: your values shine thru in the voice of your posts…I don’t see any reason a loyal reader would not want to learn more about the person who has blessed so many with such earnest, candor, and passion

Take the time with your family, for sure! I would hate to think all these posts I enjoy reading cost you irreplaceable time and missing out on experiences with your fast-growing kiddos! There is plenty of content here to get readers pointed in a healthy direction –and then some! You have done amazing work, but you don’t have to pressure yourself to provide ALL the steps/solutions.

I appreciate all the recipes, healthy home ideas, etc. and will continue recommending your blog to others.

  5. Helene Avatar

Wish I had found your blog earlier! I truly appreciate how you keep it real, simple and instructive. As most of your readers; I keep myself informed as much as I can about, health, food, the environment, world crisis etc. etc. You are giving us tools in a clear and organized manner. In some way, you plant little seeds of various topics to make us think.

I prefer reading “minimal information” on silicone products than reading a page filled with “crap” (sorry)…
You are creating a community of people who share similar goals and values. Great exchanges here! Thank you!
As a reader, I am finding valuable information on this blog. Change is fine but please continue to try and keep it real!

Advertisement? Go for it! I’m sure it would be selected to the best of your knowledge. Some of us might benefit from it.

“Flaws” and “bad days” make us perfect and more interesting! It seem to me like we can all benefit from people like YOU in our society!

Don’t feel bad for spending less time on your blog and more time with your family!

  6. Lia Avatar

Oh darn, I just thought of something that may be an idea for content. Integrative medicine!

An examples is that I’ve had hormonal challenges which have just balanced out recently. By using natural progesterone internally, the ratios are in line. I’ve been lucky to find a wonderful, brilliant doctor here in WI. Traditional medicine just doesn’t get it, doctors continue to write out prescriptions without thinking holistically. Finding alternatives for strong and sometimes unnecessary medications is critical to our well being.

Thanks for asking, Katie! You are incredible and do great work!! 😉

  7. Lia Avatar

    Dear Katie,

Although I’m fairly new to your site, I have decided that I love it! You have a warm and informative brand, and I’ve learned so much. Even though you’ve had a lot of success, I also understand the flip side and struggles that come with creating a blog. I admire you for wanting to give to others, while raising five children. In the end, you get to choose what is right for yourself and your family. Maybe it’s going in a different direction, hiring support, or reducing content. No one else has the right to decide this for you.

    I’ve answered your questions below:

    1. What do you consider “selling out?” If I were to allow advertisers (carefully selected of course) would your opinion of WellnessMama.com as a trusted resource change?

If the products are aligned with your specific brand and intention, then by all means allow advertising. You deserve to have an income, just like anyone else who goes to work every day.

    2. How much of the “real me” do you want to see? Do you want more of the raw, uncensored Katie, or prefer the squeaky clean, “Wellness Mama” image?

Bring the real on! Squeaky clean is a facade and inauthentic, it doesn’t feel real. When people are vulnerable and share their innermost selves, then true connection can begin and grow.

    3. Do you want me to create more courses, ebooks, and products for you? What type of content and information will be most helpful to you moving forward? How can I best provide simple answers for healthier families for you?

I’m a life learner, so anything along the realm of what you already do in terms of family wellness would be great!

  8. jess Avatar

    1. Selling out=primary motivation becomes money and the quality/message/values are compromised.
PLEASE put any damn ads you want to onto your pages. I will still show up. I promise. There are people who are not as smart as you, not as hard working, not nearly as creative, who are making loads of money. I truly believe that the more money you have, the more you will be able to serve others. It just seems to be who you are. YOU are exactly the kind of person who SHOULD have money.

You’ve earned it. You’ve proven yourself. Do what you need to do to keep doing what you’re doing AND provide for your family.

    2. Squeaky clean is not real. Even Christians know that, hence the whole original sin thing. I love the swearing. I love a good mess. And if you’re readers really love you, then they’ll love the real you. Personally, I’m immediately suspicious of anyone with a super clean image…I am not interested in Stepford Wives.

    3. Keep doing what you’re doing! And if adding ads to your site allows you to answer more of the questions in the comment sections, that would be great. I find those exchanges to be helpful.

Keep it up woman. You are the real deal.

    Much love,
    Jess

    Katie!
Your site is amazing. YOU are amazing. I’ve am so grateful for you and the time, effort, love you pour into this site to benefit other mothers/families…the “weird” ones, the ones who have SCOBYs sitting in jars in their kitchen, who are in love with the idea of cooking REAL food, depsite it not happening all the time in real life, the ones who give birth at home or have “school” at home or simply want their homes to be warm, loving, comforting places of health and solace for their children and their surrounding communities. Anyone who can create the ideas and words you do IS amazing- you don’t need to be anything but who YOU are- we have bloggers like that! You are you, and while I feel the spirit of Katie shines through in each post, there is more underneath the squeaky clean surface- someone with edge and grit and maybe even a few swears. (; Because, girl, THAT IS REAL MOTHERHOOD, and with the young children you have and the desires you have for your home, grit is a necessity! We will embrace that, we will embrace you, we will thank you for it!!! As far as ads- to be totally honest, I kinda like some well-vetted ads. I like them because often, I NEED a resource or a product or book or what have you, and really, where does one go to find these companies? They are often lesser-advertised or heard of if they are in alignment with our “alternative” lifestyle. Why not offer your readers a place to learn about GOOD companies and why not offer said companies the opportunity for growth…so that maybe they can actually succeed and keep serving all of us weirdos?
Also, THANK GOD you don’t look like Jenifer Aniston- you look real and beautiful and glowing and like you adore your children! You also don’t have pics up all over the place touting your abs or perfect post-baby belly, or whatever….the truth is women with hormonal imbalances (I have similar issues as you) are often the healthiest people out there and yet they don’t have the Jennifer Aniston bod despite excellent health and eating habits. There are many, many moms out there who are trying to attain xyz results through a diet and exercise that completely overlook hormone shifts or toxin sensitivity or….I guess what I’m saying is that you are a light. You are a light in this dark world of mom-expectations. You are breaking stereotypes and bypassing momy cliches and giving us something real.
Oh, to answer your final question- this is something I’ve been looking for for years, as I’ve been either nursing or pregnant for over the last 5 of them- what can moms do to seriously make changes in their adrenal fatigue, estrogen dominance issues WHILE NURSING. There is almost nothing geared toward moms who are lactating on this issue. Since detoxing is not an option, what are all the other? I know you’ve written some on this, and it’s been VERY helpful to me….but dang girl, I will take anything you give us along these lines- the more tools I have to heal myself, the better off I am!!!
Thank you, thank you for being so amazing. You are always my first stop for anything holistic as well as where I send people who want to learn more about healthy, holistic parenting and lifestyle.
You make our lives all much better with your words!

    1. Katie - Wellness Mama Avatar

Wow… Mandy… Thanks so much. Your words mean so much to me and I really appreciate your time and sincerity in writing that 🙂 Thanks so much for reading and for caring!

I know this has been out there for a while but I just read it today.
You are my go-to resource for many, many things. I have grown to know, through experience, that you are a trusted resource with exactly the attitude and intention that I relate to.
Your blog, G+ posts (the only social media I use) and easy to navigate website have definitely and greatly helped to improve my life and consequently the lives of my family members.
I wish that your job as a blogger was without complication and negativity. You have enough on your plate raising a family and all that that involves, on top of which, you are trying to help the rest of us out of the goodness of your heart.
Balance is a huge challenge with a large family. Comparing ourselves to others and trying to defend what we do should not have to be a part of it. This is something I have always struggled with. We should all be able to show our real selves and not have to defend it, if we are acting on good intentions.
You should do what you want with your blog, its your blog! I’m sure those of us who liked you before will still like you and appreciate anything you offer. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with us and for all of the work you do so that we can benefit from your efforts!

Just wanted to add my “Thank You” to the many here already. Yours was the first site of this kind I found (by accident) several years ago, and it is still the best I have seen. I love your honesty and you seem to sometimes post information as I am searching for it! My family and friends often joke about my references to ‘wellness mama’ – but I see that they also take notice and I have seen lots of impact in my life and others’ from the information gained here.

Honesty and integrity matter enormously to me, and these do seem to shine out from you, as well as your willingness to admit to mistakes, to learn and grow and try new things. I love your site and hope that you will keep being true to you, because That’s what draws your readers back, I think.

Katie I am with you sister! Just trust your heart and your intuition and do what YOU think is right. I love the way you blog and what you share.

And I understand the darkside of blogging as well i manage a site for long term care claims and it can get pretty ugly.

If you want to chat about it and some things you can do to tweak your site for more income = to the amount of time you email me and i will send you my phone number and a link to the site I manage so you can see i’m real. (no i am not trying to sell you a service. I hate that when ppl do that kind of thing)

    warm regards.

I prefer your real self, and be genuine the way you have been. I have already considered you and your site as a trusted source so please keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing all the great work and I am looking forward for more to come in 2015. It’s time consuming job and I really appreciate your effort, time and your passion.
Have a great year in 2015 and many more after this.

    Katie,

Life is too short….obviously you are a great mom (I have five kids too), great blogger, great cook, great wife, great sister, great daughter….and the list goes on and on. You are a GIVER….we give until we don’t have anything left…..we think it’s what we want and what everyone needs. However, every once in awhile we need to “check-in” and make sure we are happy, fulfilled and ask for help (maybe even take a break – what will people think :-). Blogging makes you happy, you should do what your gut tells you to do (work with whoever you want and get paid and don’t feel guilty). If it works great, if not, move on to the next idea, product, company, etc. The raw Katie is a real mom, friend and a blogger we all love…..GodSpeed

Oh Katie Thank goodness!!! I’ve been reading your blog for years now (about 5?). And in 2014 I resorted to mostly just following your pinterest and reading your articles that interest me. I’ve got to be honest -I have thought SO MANY times about you – “how the heck does she have time for that, too!?!” I’ve subscribed to your meal plans, started using magnesium because of you, remineralized my teeth, gotten a light alarm clock, etc. I’ve learned so much from your website! But homemade gummies and makeup while homeschooling and being a doula -now that’s the stuff that makes me think “what am I doing wrong with my time if she has time for that!?!” Especially moms understand how hard it is to take care of ourselves! Please, have mercy on the rest of us and take care of yourself first so we can try to keep up with “slow paced Katie.” 🙂

Katie, you ROCK! When I was kid I played in the kitchen and tried to make useful products (hair stuff, lotions, etc.) that were a healthy alternative. For years I thought maybe it was just a silly idea, so I stopped. Now, in my 40’s I stumbled upon your webpage and I thank God for you. Woman, you ROCK!!!! One idea for ads might be to put them in a separate section–say, further down the right side of the page from your own material–so readers could go there if they choose but not feel “overwhelmed” by ads, as one commenter put it. Also, if you feel the need to rant and you include a couple off-color words (the use of which I would remind some of my fellow Christian readers out there is NOT automatically sinful) that some readers might not want their children to see, perhaps you could ID such posts the way the big media networks do: with a viewer/parental advisory.

Please keep up your excellent work, when you have time. I am a new reader and intend to come back often. Many of the most sincere & genuine bloggers do NOT post as frequently as the “blogsters” because they have “lives” outside the blog, and their readers know that. Absence makes the heart grow…so I will look forward to that next post, whether it be a new healthy living tip or a rant(!), all the more.

I just wanted to let you know that you are AWESOME and that your blog has literally changed my life in ways I never imagined. I love your ideas and recipes. I recommend it to anyone who, like me, struggles with health problems. I accidentally found your blog a couple of years ago and it was almost an answer to my prayers and allowed me to continue a difficult journey from debilitating sickness to health.

My sister and I always have the conversation “Did you read WellnessMama’s post this week?” In fact, my sister’s husband jokes that he is going to get her “lunch with Wellnessmama” for her birthday : ) You have inspired me to start a small “Wellness” business and a blog of my own where I can share my own health journey. I think you are doing a fantastic job, I like to hear that you are “human” but I love that you are uplifting and encouraging as well. Your pictures are beautiful and your hard work really shows. I love to look at your affiliate links and think it would be fine if you posted ads that you supported. Blogging is fun but it is hard work and you should be compensated for all the work that you do.

    Hi Wellness Mama,

I’ve loved your blog since I found it last November and have successfully created a healthy diet with my husband of veggies, meat, and fat with no grains. I’ve made many of your recipes and bought a lot of your products and have been very grateful to have found you.

I usually love your articles and emails, but what I’ve grown to strongly dislike is all of the “It’s your last chance to buy ___! Get it before it’s too late!” or “Hurry and pay $150 to watch this webinar!!” This is a very pushy and spammy approach. To prevent from becoming called Sellout Mama, it might help to keep the phrasing as your posts are normally — recommendations (and not sounding like an ad).

I’m sure you do completely support all the products you share including the paid ones, but you don’t have to use the “YOUR TIME’S RUNNING OUT! CLICK HERE!” technique that a lot of advertisers use. And if you really feel like you must, at least allow a checkbox to let people unsubscribe to those spammy posts, and still get your Weekly update emails and the great articles you write about recipes and new findings.

Keep up the great articles, and I hope your emails are fixed before I feel the need to unsubscribe. Right now, your weekly updates of articles have been worth staying subscribed, but there have been a lot of “ACT NOW” emails that I have been tempted to just get off the mailing list.

    Thanks

Hi Cyn. Thanks for the input. I definitely see where you are coming from… the thing that is difficult to balance is if there is something that is time sensitive that I think is really beneficial and I don’t put the time in there a lot of people miss out and then I get emails from dozens of people who are upset because they missed the deal. I definitely try not to ever use things like “time is running out, click here” or “act now” and try to be genuine and transparent in everything I write, but I can see why you would not like the time sensitive emails…
