Welcome to Wellness Mama! I’m so glad you’re here. My goal is to make the switch to a Wellness Lifestyle™ easier for you than it was for me and my family. If you’re new to natural living or a seasoned natural mom, you’re in the right place! This page contains all the information you need to get started and to make your life easier. If you’re looking for a specific ingredient or product I’ve mentioned, check out my resources page where I list all of my favorite natural living resources.
In the beginning, just remember the core “RESET” by adjusting these factors:
R = Real Food
This is the core of any healthy lifestyle and all of the other factors won’t be as effective unless real food is at the core. I’ve often heard that “Those who fail to plan, plan to fail” and I find this especially true in the kitchen. I’ve found that using these simple tips for meal planning helps take a lot of the stress out of real food cooking and eating.
E = Eliminate Extra Stress
It may not seem like a big deal, but stress is #2 for a reason. Stress can be emotional, mental or physical and can occur even when we don’t “feel stressed.” Imbalance of stress hormones can lead to premature aging and increased risk of many types of disease. Reducing stress requires a holistic approach that addresses mental, emotional and physical causes. These tips can help, and some simple things like using magnesium oil on the feet at night and improving sleep can make a big difference. Which leads to the next factor of a healthy lifestyle…
S = Sleep
Health experts don’t usually agree on much, but they all agree about the importance of sleep for health and lack of sleep can lead to increased risk of disease, poor blood sugar regulation, weight gain, infertility and other problems. Of course, actually sleeping is easier said than done, especially if you have kids. Optimizing certain factors during the day and improving your sleep environment can go a long way toward getting better sleep. This post has some of my favorite tips for starting a good sleep routine to get you started.
E = Exercise
An important factor once you’ve gotten diet, stress and sleep dialed in. Too much exercise when you are stressed, sleep deprived or eating a bad diet won’t do much to help your health and can actually stress your adrenals out and make things worse. Focus on getting the other factors in place first, but once you have, find a plan to fit in exercise that works for you. These simple and fast workouts are some of my favorites and this is what a normal week might look like for me. Browse my fitness posts to find some that work for your body type and schedule.
T = Toxins
The average woman comes in contact with 515 artificial chemicals each day and scientists have identified over 200 man-made chemicals in umbilical cord blood from newborn babies. We are surrounded by artificial chemicals in our personal care products, cleaning products and our environment. Thankfully, there are easy substitutes: Natural cleaners and home products instead of chemical products (they are cheaper too!), homemade or natural beauty products in place of expensive and chemical-laden store bought products, and natural ways to reduce indoor toxins instead of chemical air-fresheners. Check out my natural home, natural beauty and natural remedies archives for some simple ideas. Some of my personal faves are oil cleansing for healthy skin, lotion bars (like lotion but better), magnesium body butter, oil pulling and homemade toothpaste.
