Wellness Mama Recipe App

Wellness Mama Recipes App

So… once upon a time, my cell phone contract was up for renewal, my old phone was dying and there was a great deal (aka free) on smart phones, so against my better judgement, I made the jump to an iPhone.

I was one of those people who laughed at friends who talked about how they couldn’t function without their iPhone because their whole life was on it… and now I am one of them! I use my phone to manage emails, listen to podcasts, catch up on health reading, and keep track of my schedule and to-do lists.

It seems that a lot of people are equally reliant on their iPhones and about half of the traffic to WellnessMama.com comes from mobile sources. Because of this, I had an iPhone app created for the blog which many readers have used and enjoyed.

However, the most referenced posts from mobile phones are recipes, which makes sense as many readers have told me they reference them while cooking. WellnessMama.com is super mobile friendly and provides a way to easily find and view recipes on the site, but I wanted to create a resource that would allow you (and me) to reference all of my recipes in a single place without having to search through other posts.

Enter Wellness Mama Recipe App

I worked with Abel James of FatBurningMan.com and his awesome team to create an incredible app for both iPhone and iPad. It has all of my recipes in an easy to use format with updated photographs.

My favorite part of the app is the ability to add recipes to a shopping list and then check items off the list as you are shopping. I’ve used it myself while shopping and it is VERY convenient!

  1. Wow that is great, very progressive of you.  On another note, I am going to get a new phone soon.  By the post I am assuming you got rid of the iphone and got a droid.  I was looking at the iphone any reason I should get a droid.  Thanks

    • I have an iPhone too… it just takes longer for the apple store to process Apps from what I’ve been told, so the iPhone version will be here soon.

  2. Fantastic!!!  Let us know ASAP when it’s in the Apple App Store!!!

  3. I *love* it!! It works perfectly on my HTC Incredible (Droid). As a side note; I’m subscribed to your Blog in Google Reader and downloading it to my Kindle is FREE because I have WiFi. YES, it’s true, I have your Blog on every device possible!! 😉

  4. YAY!  I actually checked in the app store a few weeks ago to see if you had an app yet… so perfect timing!  Thanks so much!

  5. Cant wait for the Apple app 🙂

  6. What about the iPad??? Would love an app for your site for my iPad!

    • It should already be available for iPad. Just search in iTunes and it should pull up both versions.

  7. That must be fun to see it show up on your phone now. I know I’d be excited. Congratulations on your new app! I will be downloading it ASAP. I’ve been following yours and the Wheat Belly site for about 8 weeks now and can hardly believe the difference it has made in my level of energy and lack of soreness. I’m so thankful and blessed that my friend, Linore, directed me to your blog. Keep up the fantastic work! I look forward to your book, too.

  8. What abou an Ipad app?

  9. how fun! thank you so much!! 🙂 I just found you through pinterest. LOVE your info.

  10. Is there any way for you to remove the unnecessary phone permissions like reading my phone state, etc? thanks!

    • I didn’t build it personally and I’m not super tech savvy, but according to my developer, that is an Apple and Android requirement that you can’t really get around.

  11. I went to download it on my Samsung galaxy tab2 and it says not compatible

  12. all i can say is you ROCK.I love this site, even got my daughter hooked.

  13. Please make it available for Android tablets.

  14. I was SO looking forward to this on my Kindle – like, I’m so addicted to this site I check it more than my email. Turns out that this won’t work on my Kindle Fire as it isn’t considered Android like some of the models. For the future, if there’s anyway the subscription can be adapted or the style changed, I would have loved to purchase it! I do not have an iphone, so my kindle was the only connection… 🙁 Thank you for all the awesomeness on the website!

  15. I would love to be able to use this with my Samsung tablet. The iPhone version is great, but the tablet is easier to see when I am cooking.

  16. But why does your app need to have access to my phone numbers, to take pictures or record audio

    • The terms of service are setup by Apple and Google, I don’t have any control over those. I think it’s based on the included functionality within the app, but I’m not sure.

  17. I’ve been pinning your recipes for months so I was excited to notice the app for the first time today. (I’m really not observant, ask my hubs) I downloaded it onto my iPhone 4 and for some reason the links don’t work. I can go into recipes but when I click “beef”, for instance, it does nothing. I’m sad now.

    • I’ll check on it but we are working on some updates that will make things much better.. I”ll keep you posted

      • Sweet! Thanks Katie 🙂

  18. Do you have plans to add your health/beauty recipes to the app?

    • Possibly, or they might go into a new app just for those types of recipes/remedies 🙂

      • I’d love to see the health and beauty recipes/remedies added to the app! That is my main drive in following you. I love your remedies. And an app would make them so much more accessible! Please look into adding them!

    • Ditto what Mary and Lydia said above. Your health & beauty remedies are amazing and I would love to see them added to the app!!

  19. Hey there, I just signed for the meal planning thing over the weekend, and the links worked and everything, but now when I go to the site and click the links they don’t go anywhere. Just wondering if there were problems…

    • Hi Jessica, please send an email to support @ wellnessmama.com explaining your issue, type of payment used, etc.

  20. Hi! I bought your app! Yay! I read this blog post about how you can add recipes to shopping list – how do I do that. I can’t see that anywhere… Help please!

    • If you are in a recipe, go to the ingredients tab, and then select the “add to cart” button on the left.

  21. Didn’t realize there was more than one app. Now I have both. I’m happy to support you! I really appreciate your blog and what you are doing. I wish it was easier!

  22. I’m confused….I thought you already have an app. Either that or I’m going cray-cray because it’s on my phone. And if so, how is it different from this app because that app has recipes as well.

    • This is a new app with just recipes and nothing else for easy reference. 🙂

  23. Hi Katie- I love your website and have recently been listening to your podcasts. You are opening my eyes to a new way of thinking about nutrition.

I’m curious to know what the difference is between purchasing the iPhone app versus the mama meal plan that you offer ( where you pay a monthly/annual fee)? Does the mama meal plan offer more recipes?

    • The meal planner is a comprehensive menu planning solution. You can plan a whole week at a time. The app is more designed as an on-the-go recipe aid. You can select a recipe and easily shop for necessary ingredients on a shopping checklist in the app.

  24. Hi is there a charge for the app 🙁

    • Here is my issue. I LOVE your website and the app, however why pay $2.99 to download the app when I can just look up the recipes online or on the old app and get them for free? Is there bonus stuff on the new app?

  25. Thks for ur immense contribution for the wellbeing of people. Pls when can we have your application on Android phone or tablet. Thks.

  26. I have an Android phone. I would love your app. Is that available?

  27. Any chance there will be an app for microsoft? I have a windows phone…

  28. I choose not to support Apple for what should be obvious reasons, so I’m wondering if you would offer this app for android and/or kindle?

  29. Mama in your opinion can torn rotati cuff be heal without surgery and if so how Help

  30. I’ve been following you for nearly a year now, and only within the last few months began a real conversion into this lifestyle with my family (namely because they’re incredibly picky, especially my hubby). Thing is, I feel the same about my windows phone as you do about your iphone. After using both, my odyssey just fits me so well. On that note, would you have any idea when you might convert the app to be google play friendly?

Thanks for all your awesomeness! 🙂

  31. Katie,
I have an iPhone too and from recently learning about wifi and EMFs and all that I came to your site to see what you said about them or how to make them safer? What do you do to make it safe for use and carrying around all day with you? Do you use it with the Internet or just for phone??

    • I sleep with my phone in a separate room, and I usually keep it in my purse when running errands.

  32. I just downloaded your app for the iPad and am excited to try some of your recipes. However, I can not find the cooking time or temperature for any recipes. Am I missing something?

    • If you are looking for total cook time, you can find that at the top of the “steps” tab. For somethings, such as instructions that call for browning meat, for example, cook time will vary slightly, as will temperature.

  33. Just got your app, can’t wait to see what I can have at my fingertips!
