Turmeric is a wonderful spice with so many benefits. I love using it in cooking and in natural beauty recipes, but another way to get your daily dose is in a refreshing glass of lemonade! We keep this turmeric lemonade recipe on hand as a festive drink for summer barbecues, park picnics, and friends just stopping by.

Easy Turmeric Lemonade Recipe

We mostly know turmeric as a cornerstone of Indian cuisine and curry powders, mustards, and more. Unfortunately, many of the foods I love adding turmeric in, like soups, stews, and this turmeric tea recipe, don’t sound as good in hot summer weather.

This turmeric lemonade recipe is the ideal solution and now is a family favorite. I’ve been making it often for the kids so they can rehydrate while they are playing outside. It is incredibly easy to make and tastes great!

The turmeric provides gorgeous color, but its earthy taste is mostly hidden by the tang of the lemon. Personally, I like to use liquid stevia to sweeten this, though any natural sweetener would work.

Benefits of Turmeric

So why is turmeric so great?

Doctors and naturopaths often recommend turmeric as a way to help lower inflammation in the body. Thousands of studies show its benefits in promoting heart health, mental health, reducing inflammation, and ensuring balanced blood sugar. It also turmeric supports digestion and liver function and is high in beneficial antioxidants as well.

Iced Turmeric Lemonade Recipe

Refreshing iced turmeric lemonade combines earthy and bright turmeric with fresh lemon and natural sweetness for a delicious summer drink.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 ½ cups ice
  • ½ cup lemon juice (fresh, or to taste)
  • 1-2 tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp stevia extract (or to taste, or other natural sweetener of choice)
  • 1 tiny pinch black pepper

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend for 60 seconds or until ice is completely blended.
  • Let rest for about 30 seconds before pouring into cups to serve. I prefer to serve over more ice.
  • Consume immediately.

Notes

If you won't consume all of this at once, make smaller batches by cutting the recipe in half or even fourths. I prefer to use stevia to keep the sugar content down, but any natural sweetener like maple syrup or honey will work well in this recipe.
You can also make this with lime juice (same amount as lemon juice) or orange juice (double the juice and reduce the water by 1/2 cup).
Caution: Turmeric does stain surfaces.

    I ran out of lemon juice so I made it today with orange juice, honey and add a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. I thought it was good and was wondering could I use cinnamon as a sweeter or would that be strange with the lemon juice? I might have to make it with OR more often thou, I liked it.

    I just made this and it’s the best thing ever! I do have a question though, I was looking into how much turmeric is safe to take in a day and what I found seemed to say approx 1.5 tsp. I want to make this all the time but I’m worried about consuming too much turmeric. Do you know or have any information on that? Thanks!

    Love all the tips. I am definitely going to start using More turmeric in recipes for my mom who is recovering from gastric cancer surgery. It has been 2 years but she still has digestive problems. I wonder how I can add the pinch of pepper. My mom does not want pepper on anything. She says it hurts her stomach. Any comments will be appreciated.

    Hi Katie, thank you so much for your wonderful site!
    I have only been into turmeric for a few months, but love it! It looks & tastes delicious, & really helps my digestion, it makes me feel great.
    I use it in my breakfast eggs & veggies, & add it to chicken, & vegetable dishes. I didn’t know about the black pepper, but love it & use it in everything anyway, & I guess the small amount of olive oil I use for the low heat cooking will cover the fat requirement….
    I have tasted it in a milky Indian drink in a restaurant & can’t wait to try this recipe xo
    Yes, it does stain if left on a marble bench…. it did come off eventually!
